Brand:

Demag DR-Com Wire Rope Hoist, 2 to 10 t

Description

Overview

The Demag DR-Com is Demag’s cost-effective wire rope hoist for load capacities from 2 to 10 t, offered in three sizes for single-girder and double-girder cranes and stationary lifting duties. Demag describes it as the ideal hoist for applications that demand maximum safety, reliability and efficiency at an attractive price, and the current generation brings two improvements: a new FEM group classification that doubles the service life compared with the previous model, and an increased cross-travel speed for higher handling rates. Low maintenance requirements and generously dimensioned components keep availability high.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Demag DR-Com to crane builders, factories and maintenance organisations in Oman and across the GCC, with engineering support in Muscat. For many workshop and warehouse cranes in the 2 to 10 t range, the DR-Com offers the right balance between price and durability, and our engineers help clients confirm size, hook path and control system before ordering.

Operating Principle

As general engineering background, a wire rope hoist winds a steel rope onto a grooved drum, and the rope passes through sheaves in the bottom block so that the load is shared between several rope falls. All Demag DR-Com models listed in the brochure use 4/1 reeving, giving main and creep lifting speeds of 4.5/0.8 m/min on the DR 3 and DR 5 sizes and 4.0/0.7 m/min on the DR 10 size, with hook paths of 6 or 10 m. Two speeds let operators lift quickly and then position slowly and precisely.

The hoist motor drives the drum through a three-stage gearbox lubricated for life, and a fast-acting hoist motor brake holds the load whenever the motor stops. Overload protection comes as standard through an MGS mechanical limit switch, with an optional ZMS strain gauge carrier link for further data evaluation. A precision geared limit switch monitors the upper and lower limit positions. The Demag DR-Com can be controlled either by an intelligent processor control on CAN bus integrated into the hoist or by proven contactor control in the electric enclosure.

Engineering Design of the Demag DR-Com

Three configurations are available: the EKDR-Com low-headroom travelling hoist for minimum approach dimensions on single-girder cranes, the EZDR-Com double-rail crab for optimum lifting height on double-girder cranes, and the FDR-Com foot-mounted hoist for special travelling hoists or stationary operation. Trolleys are infinitely adjustable to flange widths from 200 to 420 mm and run on low-wearing, quiet universal travel wheels suitable for sloping and parallel flanges, with guide rollers and a standard drop stop for safe cross travel. A thrust rocker or counterweights keep the travelling hoist stable.

Rugged cylindrical-rotor motors with overheating protection run with low vibration, and both motor and electric enclosure are rated IP 55 for reliable operation outdoors and in damp locations. The protective rope guide is made of tough, acid-resistant plastic and allows inclined pull of up to 4°, while the bottom block has a handle recess and a rope lead-in guard. With processor control the Demag DR-Com offers variable cross-travel speeds from 5 to 24 m/min via inverter; with contactor control it offers two-stage cross travel at 6/24 m/min. Operation is through the DSE10-R pendant with integrated display, the DST pendant or DRC radio control.

Key Features

Demag highlights these benefits of the Demag DR-Com rope hoist.

  • Load capacities from 2 to 10 t are covered by three sizes, DR 3, DR 5 and DR 10.
  • A new FEM group classification gives double the service life of the previous model.
  • Increased cross-travel speed improves handling rates.
  • Electro-mechanical overload protection is standard, with an optional strain gauge link.
  • A precision geared limit switch monitors the hoist limit positions.
  • Processor (CAN bus) or contactor control can be selected to suit the application.
  • IP 55 motors and electric enclosure allow operation outdoors and in damp locations.
  • Trolleys adjust to flange widths from 200 to 420 mm with universal travel wheels.

Industrial Applications

The 2 to 10 t range covers a large share of everyday crane duties: loading machine tools, handling steel sections and plates in fabrication shops, moving pumps, motors and valves in maintenance workshops and lifting goods in warehouses. In Oman, the Demag DR-Com is a practical choice for single-girder cranes in the Rusayl, Sohar and Nizwa industrial estates, maintenance cranes at power and water facilities, and workshop cranes at oilfield service and logistics companies. IP 55 protection supports installations in semi-open sheds and humid coastal buildings, provided the site conditions are reviewed against the Demag documentation.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Demag DR-Com together with other lifting and drive equipment. Customers needing higher capacities can step up to the Demag DR-Pro range, while light loads can be handled by the Demag DC-Com electric chain hoist. Crane projects also often include variable speed drives such as the ABB ACS880-01 or the Schneider Electric ATV630 for long-travel motions, and our Muscat team can coordinate these within one supply package.

About brand

Demag, with roots going back to 1819 and its base in Wetter, Germany, builds cranes, hoists and the KBK light crane system found over workstations and assembly lines. Seven Star LLC lists Demag electric chain hoists and wire rope hoists, among them the DC-Com electric chain hoist, which covers loads from 80 kg to 2,000 kg, and supplies Demag hoists and parts to workshops and plants in Oman and the GCC.

The Demag DC-Com chain hoist

The DC-Com has two hoist speeds as standard and a 24 V contactor control, so the pendant in the operator's hand is at low voltage. The hoist and trolley enclosures are IP 55. A slipping clutch protects against overload, and an elapsed operating time counter with a diagnosis interface supports inspection planning. It is rated for operation from -20 °C to +45 °C and runs on Demag trolleys on beam flanges or in KBK rail.

Where Demag hoists are used

Maintenance bays, machine shops, assembly cells and stores with daily lifting at one workplace.

Ordering Demag hoists: what we need

State the load capacity, hook path, supply voltage and frequency, and the suspension: hook, push trolley or electric trolley, with the beam flange width.
