Tractel Dynafor Industrial Digital Dynamometer

Description

The Tractel Dynafor Industrial is a versatile, robust digital dynamometer with an integrated display for weighing and force measurement from 1 t to 20 t. Unlike the wireless Expert and Pro models, it shows the reading on a built-in 18 mm display, so no separate display or radio set-up is needed. The manufacturer quotes 0.3 percent accuracy and an IP65 rating, and the unit is powered by two AAA batteries. It is a practical choice for riggers and maintenance teams who want a self-contained load cell for overhead weighing, test pulls and towing checks.

Functions on the integrated display

The Industrial is a complete autonomous instrument. Its functions are On/Off, Tare, Peak hold and units change between kg, daN and lbs. Automatic zeroing is built in, and the unit switches itself off after 20 minutes without load or variation, with removal of the automatic stop available as an option. The display shows the strain value together with the net or gross indicator, the peak-load indicator, a battery indicator and the unit. The sample rate is 3 Hz, rising to 32 Hz in Peak Hold mode, which captures short load peaks during a test pull. The sensor is aluminium and the working temperature range is -20 C to +50 C.

Models, accuracy and weights

The table is taken from technical sheet T-7051. The accuracy column converts the 0.3 percent figure to kilograms as given on the sheet.

Model Code WLL (t) Accuracy (kg) Resolution (kg) Net weight (kg) A x B (mm)
Industrial 1t 260889 1 3 1 0.75 191 x 164
Industrial 3.2t 260899 3.2 9.6 2 0.93 191 x 164

Choosing between Industrial, Pro and Expert

Select the Industrial when a local display is enough and 0.3 percent accuracy is acceptable. Where the operator must stand away from the load, or where higher accuracy is needed, the wireless Dynafor Pro (0.2 percent) or the Dynafor Expert (0.1 percent) are the alternatives in the Dynafor family. Take care with the minimum load: below 10 percent of the WLL the reading is outside the stated accuracy, so do not use a 20 t cell to weigh a 500 kg load. Fit the cell with a standard bow shackle at each end, avoid side loading, and never exceed the WLL. Before ordering confirm the capacity, the unit conventions, whether the automatic stop should be disabled, and any calibration certificate requirement.

Record the serial number and the calibration date of each cell, because a reading is only as dependable as the calibration behind it, and have the cell checked again after any shock load or overload event. Keep spare batteries with the kit.

Typical uses on site

The Dynafor Industrial is a self-contained instrument, which makes it well suited to jobs where a crew needs a direct reading at the load without setting up any separate equipment. Common tasks include checking the weight of a lifted item before it is moved further, verifying the force in a test pull on an anchor or lifting point, confirming the load on a towing line, and monitoring tension during maintenance on overhead equipment. Because the reading appears on the instrument itself, it is most practical where the operator can stand at a safe distance yet still see the figures clearly. Where that is not possible, the wireless members of the Dynafor family named on this page are the better fit.

Selecting the right capacity

Capacity selection is the most important decision when ordering. The cell should be sized so that the expected working load sits comfortably inside its range, above the minimum load given on the sheet and well below the WLL. Choosing a cell that is much larger than the job reduces useful resolution and may push light loads below the range where the stated accuracy applies, while choosing one that is too small leaves no margin for unexpected peaks. For teams that handle a wide spread of loads, two cells of different capacities from the model table usually give better results than one large unit. Also consider the physical size and net weight of each model, since larger cells are heavier to rig at height.

Rigging and handling practice

The dynamometer must be loaded in straight tension along its axis, with the bow shackles or swivel hooks seated correctly at each end. Side loading, twisting or contact with the load or structure during the measurement affects the reading and can damage the aluminium sensor body. Raise the load slowly, let it settle before taking a reading, and use the peak hold function only when the aim is to capture the highest force during a pull. Use tare where the weight of slings or other rigging in the line should be removed from the result. Never use the instrument as a permanent part of a lifting arrangement unless the rigging plan has been checked for that purpose.

Working in Oman and GCC conditions

Outdoor work in Oman and across the Gulf often means strong sun, high temperatures, dust and, on coastal and offshore sites, salt-laden air. The IP65 rating gives the instrument protection against dust and water jets, but it should still be kept out of direct sun between uses and stored in a clean, dry case. Check the working temperature range before using the cell on very hot days or on hot steel surfaces. Wipe off dust and salt residue after each job, inspect the load-bearing eyes for wear or deformation, and send the cell for calibration according to the site inspection schedule so that its readings remain dependable over time.
