Tractel Dynarope HF36 Wire Rope Tension Meter

Description

The Tractel Dynarope HF36 is a portable tension meter that clamps onto a wire rope and measures the rope tension with a strain-gauge sensor, so tensioning can be checked without disrupting operations. The smallest model, HF36/1/LPT, measures 50 to 5,000 daN on ropes from 5 mm to 13 mm diameter with better than 1 percent of full-scale accuracy. The range continues with two larger models for ropes up to 44 mm. It is used on telecom masts and guy lines, crane and hoist ropes, structural cable stays, rigging and anywhere correct rope tensioning must be verified.

How the HF36 measures rope tension

The sensor head is fitted to the rope with a crank-operated jaw and two sheaves, and the strain gauges convert the rope tension into an electrical signal. The sensor connects by a LEMO push-pull cable to the display unit, which holds a database of rope types and corrects the raw force for the rope structure, material and diameter. The user selects the matching rope from the list, and the result is shown on the LCD in daN. For ropes that are not in the list, a custom calibration can be created and stored, or a specific calibration can be ordered with a rope sample. Average, record and monitor functions are included, and the LOADER software logs data over time.

Model range and the rope database

Model Code Load range (daN) Rope diameter (mm)
HF36/1/LPT 187938 100 – 5,000 5 – 13
HF36/2/LPT 187948 100 – 20,000 9 – 28
HF36/3/LPT 187958 200 – 40,000 20 – 44

The standard database of the HF36/1/LPT holds calibrations for several rope constructions; the table summarises the groups from the operation manual.

Rope construction Diameters in database (mm) Example range (daN)
Stainless 19 x 1 5 to 13 60-600 (5 mm) to 350-4000 (13 mm)
Steel 6 x 36 8 to 13 100-1200 (8 mm) to 250-3000 (13 mm)
Steel 7 x 1 5 to 12 60-600 (5 mm) to 400-3200 (12 mm)
Steel 6 x 19 + fibre core 5 to 13 50-300 (5 mm) to 200-2200 (13 mm)
Steel 7 x 7 5 to 12 80-500 (5 mm) to 300-3000 (12 mm)

Using the instrument correctly

Calibrations assume a measuring rope of at least 8 m tensioned between a fixed end and a flexible end, with only a small shortening of the rope of about 1.5 mm caused by fitting the sensor. If the installation differs, or the rope is not in the list, use a custom calibration. The accuracy figure applies to the supplied rope samples on the manufacturer test bench, so field accuracy depends on rope condition, lubrication and set-up. The manual forbids use in explosive atmospheres and states that the unit must not be used for loads above the maximum utilization load. Take care not to rotate the LEMO connector when it is in the socket, protect the display from impact and check for visible damage before each use. Before ordering, confirm the rope construction and diameter, tension range, the display and software needed and the calibration certificate.

Documents and quotation

The HF36/1/LPT operation and maintenance manual is attached, because no separate technical sheet is published on the manufacturer page; a second manual covers the HF36/2/LPT. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier and quotes on request. See also Material Handling and Lifting Equipment.

About brand

Tractel is a manufacturer of lifting, pulling, height safety and load measurement equipment, founded in 1941 in the Paris region on the strength of the patent for the Tirfor wire rope hoist, a hand-operated machine that pulls a wire rope straight through it. It added the Tirak powered hoist in 1975 and moved into height safety in the 1990s. Tractel has been part of the Swedish Alimak Group since November 2022.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Tractel lifting and load measurement products with the manufacturer technical sheets, for rigging, maintenance and construction teams in Oman and the GCC.
