Brand:

IMI TA-COMPACT-P Pressure Independent Balancing and Control Valve DN 10-32

Description

Overview

The IMI TA-COMPACT-P is a pressure independent balancing and control valve (PIBCV) from IMI TA, the hydronic brand of the IMI Climate Control division. It is designed for small terminal units in heating and cooling systems, especially fan coil units, chilled beams and small air handling coils. In one compact body it combines control, presetting of the maximum flow, differential pressure control, measuring of differential pressure, temperature and flow, and isolation for maintenance. Six sizes from DN 10 to DN 32, including a DN 15 low flow version, allow the maximum flow to be set from 21.5 l/h up to 3700 l/h.

Seven Star LLC supplies the IMI TA-COMPACT-P, its actuators and connection fittings to consultants, MEP contractors and facility teams across Oman and the GCC. For projects that call for a European make PICV at every terminal, our engineers in Muscat help with sizing from the fan coil schedule, setting tables and submittal documents taken from the manufacturer datasheet.

Operating Principle

The valve contains two functional parts working in series. The control part is a valve plug with a linear characteristic and a lift of 4 mm, driven through an M30x1.5 connection by a thermal or proportional actuator. Upstream of it, a differential pressure insert with a membrane and stainless steel springs keeps the pressure drop across the control part constant. As long as the total differential pressure across the IMI TA-COMPACT-P stays between the minimum value (15 kPa for DN 10 to 20, 23 kPa for DN 25 and 32 at setting 10) and the maximum of 400 kPa, the flow at any plug position does not depend on what the pump or the rest of the system is doing.

The maximum flow is set by turning the setting wheel from 1 to 10, and the qmax table in the datasheet gives the flow for each position at fully open plug. Because the characteristic is linear, IMI notes that the IMI TA-COMPACT-P is best suited for on/off control, and recommends the TA-Modulator with its EQM characteristic when proportional control with EMO TM is needed. Measuring points connected to the IMI TA balancing instruments allow the technician to read actual flow by entering valve type, size and setting, and a bypass spindle can be opened to measure the available differential pressure for diagnostics and pump optimisation.

Engineering Design of the IMI TA-COMPACT-P

The body and the valve insert are made of AMETAL, the dezincification resistant alloy of IMI, with a brass plug CW724R, a stainless steel spindle with EPDM O-ring seal, a PPS differential pressure insert, EPDM and HNBR membrane, stainless steel springs and EPDM O-rings. The pressure class is PN 16, the working temperature range is minus 10 to 90 degrees C, and the valve accepts water or neutral fluids including water-glycol mixtures from 0 to 57 percent. Leakage with the plug closed is 0.01 percent or less of qmax at setting 10, Class IV according to EN 60534-4, so the valve also serves as an isolation point during maintenance.

All IMI TA-COMPACT-P sizes have external threads to ISO 228, from G1/2 on DN 10 up to G1 1/2 on DN 32, and IMI offers swivelling-nut connections for internal or external threads, welding, soldering, press and compression joints. The slim shape gives one-side access to all functions. Approximately 15 mm of free space is needed above the actuator, and the installed height with EMO T is 107 mm on DN 10 to 20 and 113 mm on DN 25 to 32. Optional accessories include EPP insulation shells for comfort cooling, a spindle extension to reduce condensation risk at the actuator interface, a tamper proof cover and a protection cap.

Key Features

The IMI TA-COMPACT-P gives fan coil installations these practical benefits:

  • Five functions in one valve: control, maximum flow presetting, differential pressure control, measuring and isolation.
  • Six sizes from DN 10 to DN 32, with flow settable between 21.5 l/h and 3700 l/h.
  • Working differential pressure from 15 or 23 kPa up to 400 kPa, keeping flow stable as pump head and system load change.
  • Smoothly adjustable setting wheel that prevents overflow through the terminal unit.
  • Measuring points for flow, differential pressure and temperature with IMI TA balancing instruments.
  • AMETAL body and insert with stainless steel springs for corrosion resistance and low leakage risk.
  • Leakage of 0.01 percent or less of qmax, Class IV to EN 60534-4.
  • Compact shape with one-side access and standard M30x1.5 actuator connection for EMO T, EMO TM and TA-TRI.

Industrial Applications

The IMI TA-COMPACT-P targets the terminal units that make up most of the hydronic load in Gulf buildings. Fan coils in hotel rooms, hospital wards, offices and apartments run at part load most of the time, and with conventional balancing their flows drift whenever other zones open and close. An IMI TA-COMPACT-P at each coil keeps every unit at its design flow, which helps maintain chiller delta-T and allows variable speed pumps to slow down. Typical sites in Oman include hotels and serviced apartments in Muscat, healthcare facilities, universities, government complexes and residential towers on district cooling.

Because one valve replaces a separate control valve and balancing valve, the IMI TA-COMPACT-P also shortens installation on large fan coil rollouts and leaves fewer joints in ceiling voids. Seven Star LLC supplies the IMI TA-COMPACT-P with EMO T or TA-TRI actuators and the required fittings, and supports contractors in the Sohar and Salalah free zones and across the GCC with selection and setting tables.

About brand
IMI TA is a name that HVAC engineers associate with hydronic balancing, the work of getting design flow to every terminal in a heating or cooling water system. The brand dates from 1897 and its focus is balancing and control valves. Seven Star LLC lists the IMI TA-COMPACT-P pressure independent balancing and control valve, DN 10 to DN 32, and supplies IMI TA valves in Oman on inquiry.

IMI TA-COMPACT-P valves

The TA-COMPACT-P in our listing is a pressure independent balancing and control valve for terminal units, made in sizes DN 10 to DN 32. One valve sets the maximum flow, holds it against pressure changes in the system and accepts an actuator for control. Fan coil units and small air handling coils in chilled water systems are the usual place for a valve of this size.

Ordering IMI TA valves: what we need

Send the article number from the valve or the schedule, or the size, the thread type and the design flow rate for each valve. For actuators we need the control signal, the supply voltage and the cable length. Consultants on GCC building projects can send the full valve schedule for line-by-line checking against the manufacturer data.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the IMI TA-COMPACT-P combine in one valve?
It combines control, presetting of the maximum flow, differential pressure control, measuring of differential pressure, temperature and flow, and isolation for maintenance. This replaces a separate control valve and balancing valve at each terminal unit.
What is the working pressure range of the IMI TA-COMPACT-P?
The maximum differential pressure is 400 kPa. The minimum recommended differential pressure at setting 10 is 15 kPa for DN 10 to 20 and 23 kPa for DN 25 and 32; lower settings need less, which can be checked in the IMI HySelect software.
Is the TA-COMPACT-P suitable for modulating control?
Its characteristic is linear and IMI states it is best suited for on/off control. When used with the proportional EMO TM actuator the setting must be 3 or higher, and IMI recommends the TA-Modulator with its EQM characteristic for proportional control.
Which pipe connections are available for the TA-COMPACT-P?
The valve has external threads to ISO 228. IMI offers swivelling-nut fittings for internal and external threads, welding, soldering, press couplings and compression joints, so it can connect to steel, copper or multilayer pipe.
Does Seven Star LLC supply IMI TA valves in Oman?
Yes. Seven Star LLC supplies the IMI TA-COMPACT-P with actuators and fittings to contractors and facility owners in Oman and the GCC, with selection and documentation support from Muscat.
