Belimo is a Swiss manufacturer specializing in field devices for the energy-efficient control of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems. Its range covers damper actuators with and without spring return, characterised control valves, electronic pressure-independent valves (EPIV), the Energy Valve with an integrated thermal energy meter, and room, duct and immersion sensors for temperature, humidity and differential pressure. Most devices communicate over BACnet, Modbus or MP-Bus and can be configured through NFC and a smartphone app, which simplifies integration with building management systems. Typical installations include commercial towers, hospitals, hotels, airports, data centres and district cooling networks. How do Belimo pressure-independent valves help with low delta-T in chilled water systems?
Belimo EPIV and Energy Valve models measure flow electronically and hold each coil at its set flow regardless of pressure changes in the network. The Energy Valve also measures supply and return temperatures and can limit flow when the temperature difference across a coil falls below a set value, which protects chiller efficiency and reduces pumping energy.
Can Belimo actuators and valves be integrated into a BMS?
Yes. Many Belimo devices offer BACnet MS/TP or BACnet/IP, Modbus RTU or Modbus TCP and the Belimo MP-Bus, and most can also be driven by a standard 2 to 10 V signal. This allows control and feedback data such as position, flow or energy to be read directly by the building management system.
What is the difference between Belimo spring-return and standard damper actuators?
Spring-return actuators such as the LF and NF series tension a return spring while running and drive the damper to a defined safe position by spring force when power is lost. Standard actuators such as the NM..A series hold their position on power loss and are typically used for modulating air volume and mixing dampers.
