IMI TA STAP Differential Pressure Controller DN15-50

Description

Differential pressure controller that keeps hydronic circuits stable

The IMI TA STAP is a differential pressure controller for the secondary side of heating and cooling systems. Installed in the return pipe and connected by a capillary tube to a balancing valve, it holds a constant differential pressure across a circuit, riser or control valve while the available pressure and load change. That keeps control valves quiet and stable, removes the need to re-balance when parts of the plant are switched in or out, and makes commissioning faster in buildings with many zones.

The set-point is adjustable with a 3 mm Allen key, a shut-off function simplifies maintenance, and a measuring point with a draining option helps balancing. The body, bonnet, cone and spindles are made from AMETAL dezincification resistant alloy with an HNBR membrane.

Sizing and selection

Choose the smallest valve whose minimum required pressure drop, read from the leaflet diagram, is below the available differential pressure; for example at 6000 l/h the DN40 needs about 22 kPa while the DN32 needs 50 kPa. Check that the circuit set-point lies inside the setting range of the chosen size, and combine the controller with a STAD balancing valve for flow measurement and capillary connection. STAP and STAD packages are listed under their own article numbers, for example 52 865-104 for DN40. See the IMI TA-Modulator for pressure independent control; more valves are under Control Valves.

About brand

IMI TA is a name that HVAC engineers associate with hydronic balancing, the work of getting design flow to every terminal in a heating or cooling water system. The brand dates from 1897 and its focus is balancing and control valves. Seven Star LLC lists the IMI TA-COMPACT-P pressure independent balancing and control valve, DN 10 to DN 32, and supplies IMI TA valves in Oman on inquiry.

IMI TA-COMPACT-P valves

The TA-COMPACT-P in our listing is a pressure independent balancing and control valve for terminal units, made in sizes DN 10 to DN 32 and rated PN 16. One valve sets the maximum flow, holds it against pressure changes in the system and accepts an actuator for control. Body and insert are made of AMETAL, the manufacturer's dezincification-resistant alloy, and water-glycol mixtures up to 57 percent are permitted. Fan coil units and small air handling coils in chilled water systems are the usual place for a valve of this size.

Ordering IMI TA valves: what we need

Send the article number from the valve or the schedule, or the size, the thread type and the design flow rate for each valve. For actuators we need the control signal, the supply voltage and the cable length. Consultants on GCC building projects can send the full valve schedule for line-by-line checking against the manufacturer data.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the STAP installed?
In the return pipe, with the correct flow direction, connected by a capillary pipe to a balancing valve such as STAD.
What setting ranges exist?
5-25 kPa, 10-40 kPa, 10-60 kPa and 20-80 kPa, depending on the size.
What is the maximum differential pressure over the STAP?
250 kPa, in pressure class PN 16 and up to 120 C.
What is supplied with the controller?
A 1 m capillary pipe and transition nipples G1/2 and G3/4 are included.
Can STAP be used across a control valve?
Yes. One of the leaflet application examples keeps the differential pressure across a control valve nearly constant, giving an authority close to 1.
