Meinberg LANTIME M1000 Modular NTP/PTP Time Server (IMS 1U)
Overview
The Meinberg LANTIME M1000 is the most compact rack-mounted member of Meinberg’s IMS (Intelligent Modular Synchronization) platform. In a 1U, 19-inch chassis it combines a CPU module, one or two reference clock modules, one or two power supplies and up to four input/output slots, so the same unit can be configured as a high-capacity NTP server, a PTP grandmaster, a PTP boundary clock, an IRIG-B generator or a frequency and pulse distribution source. The Meinberg LANTIME M1000 delivers NTP server performance out of the box with only power, clock and CPU modules installed.
Seven Star LLC supplies the Meinberg LANTIME M1000 to power utilities, oil and gas operators, telecom networks and data centres across the Sultanate of Oman and the GCC, with engineering support in Muscat. We help engineers define the module set, antenna installation and network interfaces needed for substations, control rooms and SCADA networks.
Operating Principle
A time server is only as good as its reference. The reference clock module in the Meinberg LANTIME M1000 disciplines a local oscillator to an external source — GPS, GLONASS, Galileo or BeiDou satellites, the DCF77 long-wave signal, IRIG/AFNOR time codes, PTP, NTP, SyncE, PPS, 10 MHz or E1/T1 telecom inputs — making the unit a Stratum 1 server. Sources can be prioritised with a bias and precision level for each, and if the primary reference is lost the oscillator holds time, or the system falls back to a second clock module. Pulse outputs achieve better than ±50 ns accuracy with OCXO oscillators.
The CPU module then distributes that time to the network. It answers up to 25,000 NTP requests per second, enough for thousands of clients, and supports NTP v2/v3/v4, SNTP and NTS (Network Time Security) alongside symmetric key authentication. For sub-microsecond requirements, PTP (IEEE 1588-2008) modules provide hardware time-stamping; one PTP module serves as grandmaster or slave, and two allow operation as a boundary clock. Parallel Redundancy Protocol (IEC 62439-3) and SNTP synchronization of IEC 61850 devices make the platform suitable for digital substations.
Engineering Design of the Meinberg LANTIME M1000
The powder-coated steel chassis measures 483 x 44 x 290 mm and is rated IP30. The front panel carries a 4 x 16 character LC display, eight push buttons and four bicolour status LEDs for reference, time service, network and alarm, plus a USB port for firmware updates, configuration backup and front panel locking. A field-replaceable Active Cooling Module can be changed under power. The unit operates from 0 °C to 50 °C, up to 4,000 m altitude and 95 % humidity non-condensing.
Power modules are available as wide-range AC/DC (90–265 V AC, 90–250 V DC) and DC versions for 20–60 V or 10–36 V, each providing up to 50 W; two can be fitted and mixed for redundancy, for example AC primary with a substation DC battery as backup. The CPU provides one 100/1000BASE-T RJ45 port and one 1000BASE-T SFP, and network expansion modules add up to 16 more Gigabit ports. All modules are hot-plug capable and configured through the web interface, CLI, REST API or SNMP, running Meinberg’s Linux-based LTOS firmware.

- Secure management over HTTPS, SSH and SNMPv3, with a REST API for automation.
Industrial Applications
Electrical substations and power plants in Oman need precise, traceable time for protection relays, merging units, phasor measurement units and sequence-of-events recorders. The Meinberg LANTIME M1000 can provide NTP to SCADA servers, PTP to IEC 61850 process bus devices and IRIG-B to legacy relays from the same chassis, with redundant power from the station DC system. It is a natural upgrade path for sites already running a Meinberg LANTIME M320/GPS/AD10 NTP time server, adding PTP and module redundancy while keeping familiar LANTIME management.
Oil and gas control systems, pipeline SCADA networks, telecom operators and data centres across the GCC use the Meinberg LANTIME M1000 to synchronise DCS servers, historians, CCTV systems and network equipment, so alarms and logs from different systems line up exactly, including event records from protection relays such as the SEL-751 feeder protection relay. Industrial Ethernet switches such as the Winsonic NE10003-208423 industrial PoE switch distribute the time inside field networks, and redundant managed switches such as the Hirschmann RSP20 managed industrial Ethernet switch support PRP topologies. Seven Star LLC supplies the Meinberg LANTIME M1000 with GNSS antennas, cables and lightning protection, and supports customers in Muscat with configuration planning.

The LANTIME M320 is a 1U rackmount NTP time server. It works as a stratum 1 source with its own reference receiver, and Meinberg offers it with GPS, combined GNSS, DCF77 (PZF), MSF and IRIG time code references. The LANTIME M1000 is a 1U platform on the modular IMS system, with slots for up to two reference clocks, two power supplies and hot-pluggable I/O modules, plus PTP (IEEE 1588) and IEC 61850 time synchronization.Ordering a Meinberg time server: what we need
A Meinberg order code describes the build. In M320/GPS/AD10, GPS is the receiver and AD10 is the wide-range AC/DC power supply. Send the full code or serial number, the reference source, oscillator option, supply voltage, the outputs you need (PPS, 10 MHz, IRIG, extra LAN ports) and the antenna cable length. GCC utility projects often require redundant supplies.Browse Meinberg products by category: Industrial Communications.
