Biffi ICON3000 Intelligent Multi-Turn Electric Actuator
Overview
The Biffi ICON3000 is the current generation of the ICON family of intelligent multi-turn electric actuators. Biffi describes it as non-intrusive, with an integrated starter and a configuration model that lets an engineer set up and diagnose the actuator without opening the enclosure. The ICON family has been in service for more than 25 years across oil and gas, power and process industries, and the Biffi ICON3000 adds a new interface and position detection system to that proven mechanism.
Seven Star LLC supplies the Biffi ICON3000 to customers in the Sultanate of Oman and the GCC, with availability enquiries and engineering support in Muscat. We help specify the torque size, the voltage code, the enclosure certification, the bus module and the paint system, and we can quote quarter-turn gearboxes and accessories in the same offer. For smaller quarter-turn valves, compare the Biffi F01 electric quarter-turn actuator.
Drive and Control Principle
The motor drives a worm shaft that acts directly on a worm wheel, a direct-driven gear train that Biffi calls extremely reliable and that keeps the number of mechanical parts low. Lubrication is a hydraulic oil bath designed to last the life of the actuator. A handwheel with a lockable engagement lever allows manual operation, and it de-clutches automatically when the motor starts, so the handwheel does not spin during electric operation.
Control sits on an electronic card with a high-resolution torque sensor and an absolute encoder for position. The encoder keeps the valve position even without battery backup if main power is lost. Output torque can be adjusted from 40 to 100 percent of nominal, a torque bypass time of 0 to 20 percent of the stroke lets the actuator deliver maximum torque to unseat a valve, and diagnostics report jammed valves, contactor faults and temperature alarms.
Engineering Design of the Biffi ICON3000
The Biffi ICON3000 uses a corrosion-resistant aluminium alloy enclosure with few joints and a double-sealed terminal board. The local interface has a lockable local, off and remote selector, three Hall-effect push-buttons, and LEDs whose colours can be changed. Two displays are fitted: a 3.5 digit LCD that always shows position as a percentage, and a 128 by 64 dot OLED graphic display for the text menu, with eleven language options.
The standard paint finish is rated to ISO 12944 category C5 and CX, and the external coating has passed 1,500 hours of salt spray testing. Biffi also quotes vibration testing to IEC 60068-2-6, seismic testing to IEC 60068-2-57 and a noise level below 65 dB at one metre. Remote control uses 4-wire, 3-wire or 2-wire logic, and eight voltage-free latching contacts provide remote indication.
Key Features
The Biffi ICON3000 is aimed at demanding oil, gas and power sites. Main features include:
- Six torque ratings of 30, 90, 180, 360, 720 and 1,440 Nm, covering 30 to 1,440 Nm in total.
- Operating speed up to 173 RPM and duty up to S4-50 percent at 1,200 starts per hour.
- Power supply from 24 V DC to 690 V AC, single-phase or three-phase.
- Working temperature from -60 to +85°C, with an integrated heater protecting the electronics.
- Fieldbus options include FOUNDATION Fieldbus, HART, Profibus DPV0, DPV1 and redundant, LonWorks and Modbus.
- Integrated by-pass unit that keeps network continuity when the actuator is removed from the field.
- Optional 4 to 20 mA analog board for modulating duty with position feedback.
- Certification coverage that includes ATEX, IECEx, FM, FM-c, UKCA, ECAS (UAE), SIL 2/3 and several regional approvals.
Industrial Applications
Biffi positions the ICON3000 for oil and gas, power and process operators, and its published case studies include an offshore field in the Middle East. For Oman that means block valves on export pipelines, wellhead and manifold valves, tank farm isolation and the gates and sluices of water transmission networks, as well as boiler and cooling-water valves in power and desalination plants at Sohar, Barka and Salalah.
The Biffi ICON3000 suits sites where remote diagnostics and network integration matter. The data logger records instantaneous and historical data, the Bluetooth link allows configuration from a laptop without opening the cover, and the bus by-pass unit means a failed actuator can be swapped without breaking a fieldbus loop. A wide range of reducers also lets the actuator drive quarter-turn valves such as ball and butterfly types. Seven Star LLC can quote these with the Biffi RPD self-contained electro-hydraulic actuator as an alternative where fail-safe hydraulics are preferred.

Documents and Ordering Notes
The attached file is the Biffi product data sheet for the ICON3000. It is a large, multi-section document and contains the torque and motor tables, dimensions, output drive types and spare parts list. State the valve torque, stem details, supply voltage and hazardous-area requirement when you request a quotation so we can confirm the correct model code.
Why Choose Seven Star LLC for Biffi ICON3000 Supply
An intelligent actuator only performs as specified when its model code is right. For each Biffi ICON3000 enquiry, Seven Star LLC confirms valve torque and thrust, supply voltage, duty class, enclosure certification, bus module and paint system with you against the Biffi datasheet, and returns a model code you can check line by line. For a project with many valves, we can structure the offer so that every Biffi ICON3000 on the list is traceable to a tag number and a data sheet revision.

Biffi actuator series on this page
The series names follow a logic that helps when reading a tag. ALGA is the pneumatic quarter-turn actuator and ALGAS its spring-return version. OLGA-H is the hydraulic quarter-turn actuator and OLGAS-H the fail-safe hydraulic version with spring. In the compact rack-and-pinion group, RPD and RPS are the double-acting and spring-return pneumatic pair, and RPHD and RPHS are their hydraulic counterparts. The F01 and F02 are electric quarter-turn actuators; the manufacturer now names the Bettis SCE300 as the replacement for the F02. In each pair the S marks the model that returns to a safe position by spring.Where Biffi actuators are used
Typical duties are emergency shutdown and blowdown valves, pipeline block valves, wellhead and manifold valves, tank farm isolation and large ball valves at compressor and metering stations. Spring-return models are chosen for fail-safe service. Hydraulic and electro-hydraulic units appear where instrument air is not on hand, as on remote GCC pipeline stations.Ordering Biffi actuators: what we need
Actuators are sized, so the valve data comes first: valve type and size, the torque curve or at least break, run and end torques, the safety factor in your specification and the stem and mounting flange dimensions. Then the supply: minimum and maximum air or oil pressure, or voltage for electric units. State the fail action, stroking time, ambient temperature and the control accessories required. For an existing actuator send the model and serial number from the nameplate.Browse Biffi products by category: Valve Actuator.
