Universal Robots UR12e 12.5 kg Collaborative Robot Arm

Description

A versatile 12.5 kg cobot with 1300 mm reach

The Universal Robots UR12e combines a 12.5 kg payload with a 1300 mm reach, and its data sheet calls it the most versatile robot the company offers. The six-joint arm weighs 33.5 kg with cable, stands on a 190 mm base and repeats positions to 0.05 mm, with a 4 m/s maximum TCP speed.

The long reach lets a single arm serve several fixtures, a machine door and a pallet position from one base, which is the usual reason to choose a 1300 mm cobot over a smaller one. A tool-flange sensor measuring up to 100 N and 10 Nm supports force-controlled tasks.

Reach, payload and cell layout

Reach and payload together decide whether one arm can cover a workstation, so place the tool centre point and the heaviest workpiece, including the gripper, against the working envelope and payload curve in the manufacturer documentation before committing to a layout.

The M8 tool connector delivers 12 or 24 V at up to 2 A on dual-pin supply, with two digital I/O points and either two analog inputs or RS-485. Ambient limits are 0 to 50 degrees C and 90% RH non-condensing, and the arm accepts any mounting orientation. The data sheet lists 23 configurable safety functions, EN ISO 13849-1 (PLd Category 3) and EN ISO 10218-1.

The controller side offers Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP and PROFINET with PROFIsafe, plus ROS and ROS2. Digital capacity is 16 inputs and 16 outputs, with 2 analog inputs, 2 analog outputs and 4 quadrature inputs. Mains input is 100 to 240 VAC at 47 to 440 Hz, and the touchscreen pendant runs PolyScope.

At 33.5 kg the arm should be lifted with suitable equipment during installation, and the mounting surface must carry the arm weight plus the dynamic loads of a 12.5 kg tool and part moving at speed.

Universal Robots cobot models compared

The UR12e sits in the middle of the payload range. Universal Robots also lists a UR12e-1300 version with the CB7 controller and TP7 Core pendant at the same 12.5 kg payload and 1300 mm reach; confirm which controller generation applies.

Model Payload Reach
UR3e 3 kg 500 mm
UR7e 7.5 kg 850 mm
UR12e 12.5 kg 1300 mm
UR16e 16 kg 900 mm
UR20 20 kg 1750 mm
UR30 30 kg 1300 mm

Documents and quotation

The attached sheet is the manufacturer one-page UR12e specification. Check the controller generation, the combined weight of gripper and workpiece, the cell layout and the electrical supply, then send quantity and delivery location with the request. The arm is catalogued under robotics category.

About brand

Universal Robots is a Danish manufacturer of collaborative robots (cobots), founded in 2005 and headquartered in Odense, and part of Teradyne Robotics. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, quotes Universal Robots cobot arms for machine tending, palletizing, screwdriving, welding and assembly cells.

Collaborative robot arms from 3 kg to 30 kg payload

The Universal Robots range covers six-joint arms from the 3 kg UR3e to the 30 kg UR30, programmed on a touchscreen teach pendant with the PolyScope software. Each catalogue page links the manufacturer data sheet, so payload, reach, weight and protection rating can be compared before a quotation is issued.

Typical cobot applications

Machine tending, material handling, palletizing, screwdriving, welding and assembly are application areas named for these arms. Final suitability depends on the tooling, the workpiece and the risk assessment of the complete cell.

Ordering Universal Robots products

Send the arm model, controller generation if known, tooling, quantity and delivery location with the inquiry, so the matching version can be checked against its data sheet before a quotation is issued.
