Universal Robots UR7e 7.5 kg Collaborative Robot Arm

Description

A medium-duty 7.5 kg cobot with built-in force sensing

The Universal Robots UR7e is the medium-duty arm of the family. Its data sheet describes ultimate flexibility for medium-duty applications, with a 7.5 kg payload and an 850 mm reach on a 151 mm base at 20.6 kg. A repeatability of 0.03 mm and a 4 m/s maximum TCP speed put it between the compact UR3e and the heavier arms, for handling, assembly and machine-loading tasks where 3 kg is too little but a 12 kg arm is more than the job needs.

A force/torque sensor in the tool flange measures up to 50 N and 10 Nm, so force-controlled insertion, polishing or part-presence checks can use sensing built into the arm. All six joints turn through a full 360 degrees each way at up to 180 degrees/s.

Technical specifications

Parameter Specification
Payload 7.5 kg (16.5 lbs)
Reach 850 mm (33.5 in)
Joints 6 rotating joints, each with 360 degrees of travel in both directions
Pose repeatability, ISO 9283 0.03 mm either direction
Maximum TCP speed 4 m/s
Joint speed limits 180 degrees/s on every joint
Tool-flange force/torque sensor 50 N and 10 Nm range; 3.5 N and 0.2 Nm precision; 4.0 N and 0.3 Nm accuracy
Power draw 570 W maximum
Protection and noise IP54; under 65 dB(A)
Footprint and weight Base 151 mm; 20.6 kg with 6 m arm cable
Tool flange EN ISO 9409-1-50-4-M6

Tool flange, force sensing and control box

The flange connector is an M8 8-pin female type supplying 12 or 24 V, with 1.5 A on the dual-pin supply or 1 A on a single pin, two digital I/O points and either two analog inputs or RS-485. The arm can be installed in any orientation and is rated for 0 to 50 degrees C.

For the robot, the data sheet lists 23 configurable safety functions with EN ISO 13849-1 (PLd Category 3) and EN ISO 10218-1. Safety of a finished cell still depends on the tool, the workpiece and the integrator risk assessment, which set speed limits and any guarding.

Programming happens on a 12-inch PolyScope pendant weighing 1.6 kg with 1 m of cable. The IP44 control box measures 460 x 449 x 254 mm and weighs 12 kg; it takes 100 to 240 VAC and provides Ethernet at 1 Gb/s, USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports, a Mini DisplayPort output and 24 V, 2 A I/O power. An OEM version of the box exists.

A 20.6 kg arm still needs a rigid base or pedestal, because the reaction forces of a moving 7.5 kg load act on the mounting. Include the gripper, the workpiece and any adapter plate when checking the payload.

Universal Robots cobot models compared

The UR7e is the second-lightest of the six arms listed here. Universal Robots also lists a UR7e-920 with the CB7 controller and TP7 Core pendant at 7.5 kg payload and 920 mm reach, while the data sheet attached here states 850 mm. Confirm the exact version before ordering.

Model Payload Reach
UR3e 3 kg 500 mm
UR7e 7.5 kg 850 mm
UR12e 12.5 kg 1300 mm
UR16e 16 kg 900 mm
UR20 20 kg 1750 mm
UR30 30 kg 1300 mm

About brand

Universal Robots is a Danish maker of collaborative robot arms, founded in 2005 in Odense by three researchers from the University of Southern Denmark who wanted to make robots light and affordable enough for smaller manufacturers. Its first cobot, the UR5, was launched in 2008. Teradyne acquired Universal Robots in 2015 for $285 million.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Universal Robots arms for manufacturers and integrators in Oman and the GCC.

Universal Robots product series

e-Series arms include the UR3e for 3 kg, the UR7e for 7.5 kg, the UR12e for 12.5 kg and the UR16e for 16 kg payloads.

Larger arms include the UR20 long-reach cobot for 20 kg and the UR30 heavy-payload cobot for 30 kg.

Payload must include the gripper or tool, and reach sets the working area: the UR3e suits bench tasks, while the UR20 and UR30 handle palletising and heavier parts. The arms can be programmed with the teach pendant or by moving the arm by hand, and many grippers and tools are available as UR+ accessories.

A risk assessment of the complete application is needed before people work beside the robot, as the safety depends on the tool, the part and the speed.

Where Universal Robots arms are used

Machine tending, pick and place, palletising, screwdriving, welding, polishing, quality inspection and laboratory automation.
