Brand:

TP-Link SG2008P Omada 8-Port Gigabit PoE+ Switch

Description

A fanless 8-port smart switch with four PoE+ ports

The SG2008P is the smallest PoE switch in the Omada Access range: eight gigabit RJ45 ports, four of them 802.3af/at PoE+, in a 209 x 126 x 26 mm metal case that mounts on a desk or wall. It is fanless, so it makes no noise.

The 62 W PoE budget allows up to 30 W on a single port, which covers an access point and a camera or two phones. Management is standalone through web, CLI, SNMP and RMON, or through Omada controllers and the cloud with zero-touch provisioning where supported.

Reading the numbers: eight gigabit ports equal 16 Gbps counted both ways (derived), which matches the stated switching capacity. The 62 W PoE budget across four ports allows two 30 W devices or four devices of up to 15.4 W, such as ceiling access points, but not four 30 W loads at once. Because the switch is powered from an external 53.5 V adapter drawing at most 73.4 to 74.7 W with full PoE, a small UPS can keep a camera and access point running through short outages.

PoE, switching and management features

  • 8 gigabit ports with 4 PoE+ (802.3af/at, up to 30 W each, 62 W total).
  • Fanless design; 16 Gbps switching capacity and 11.90 Mpps forwarding.
  • VLAN, ACL, QoS and IGMP snooping; 32 IP interfaces and 32 static routes.
  • 53.5 V DC external power adapter; standby draw 3 W.
  • 8K MAC table, 9 KB jumbo frames and surge protection on the service port.

Ordering notes and media converters

Order code SG2008P (hardware 3.30, UN). The package contains the switch, power adapter, power cord, rubber feet and installation guide. The datasheet pairs it with MC series media converters for fibre, such as MC220L (SFP, up to 100 m), MC210CS (single-mode, 20 km), MC200CM (multi-mode, 550 m) and WDM types MC211CS-20, MC212CS-20, MC211CS-2 and MC212CS-2. There are no SFP slots on this model.

Mounting, power adapter and temperature limits

Note the operating limit of 40 degrees C: this is lower than the other Omada PoE switches, so a sunlit cabinet or a non-ventilated roof space is not suitable. The external 53.5 V adapter is the only power route, and the PoE budget of 62 W limits the count of high-power devices. Keep PoE cable runs within normal Ethernet distance limits.

Small sites, cabins and edge cabinets

Typical uses are a small office, a shop, a site cabin or a wall cabinet that needs one ceiling access point and a camera on a single cable. For more PoE capacity or SFP uplinks step up to the SG2428P. The four non-PoE ports connect PCs, printers or a gateway, and because the unit is only 26 mm high and weighs 0.6 kg it fits on a shelf or on a wall bracket without a rack. In controller mode it can be adopted together with the access point it powers, so VLANs and PoE schedules are set once for the whole small network.

Information to send with an RFQ for the TP-Link SG2008P Omada 8-Port Gigabit PoE+ Switch

Switch selection depends on how many devices connect, how they are powered and how the switch links back to the core. For the TP-Link SG2008P Omada 8-Port Gigabit PoE+ Switch, list the number of copper and fibre ports you need, the PoE devices it will feed (cameras, access points, phones) and their individual power class, so the total PoE budget can be checked against the switch’s limit.

  • Uplink speed and media: 1G, 2.5G or 10G, copper or SFP/SFP+, and the optic modules required.
  • Management needs: VLANs, link aggregation, IGMP snooping, or central management from a controller.
  • Rack space, airflow direction and power redundancy in the cabinet.
  • Ambient temperature in the room or field cabinet, which matters in GCC summers.

A simple port map of the site is enough for the configuration to be checked before the order is confirmed.
