Brand:

TP-Link ER8411 Omada VPN Gateway with 10G Ports

Description

A rack-mount VPN gateway with 10G SFP+ WAN and dual power supplies

The ER8411 is a rack-mount Omada VPN gateway with two 10G SFP+ ports (one WAN and one WAN/LAN), a gigabit SFP port and eight gigabit RJ45 WAN/LAN ports, for up to 10 WAN lines in total. A 4 GB DDR4 memory and a 2,300,000 session table put it in the enterprise class of the Omada range.

Two fixed AC power supplies, 100-240 VAC, give redundancy, and two USB 3.0 ports allow an LTE dongle to be used for backup. The datasheet lists NAT throughput near 9.4 Gbps and IPsec up to 3099.4 Mbps with ESP-SHA1-AES256.

Reading the numbers: NAT throughput above 9.4 Gbps matches a 10G internet or core link, and IPsec of 2878 to 3099.4 Mbps allows several heavy site-to-site tunnels at once. WireGuard reaches 1411 Mbps and OpenVPN 1043 Mbps, again showing the effect of protocol choice. The 2,300,000 concurrent sessions and 20,000 new sessions per second suit large user populations. At 19.12 to 26.36 W the box is modest in power, and the dual AC supplies protect against a supply failure but not against loss of both feeds.

Throughput, VPN capacity and security features

  • 10G SFP+ WAN and WAN/LAN, one gigabit SFP and eight gigabit RJ45 WAN/LAN ports; up to 10 WAN ports with load balance.
  • 300 IPsec tunnels, 300 shared PPTP/L2TP tunnels, 110 OpenVPN tunnels, SSL VPN and WireGuard.
  • IPS throughput 9388 Mbps (TCP) and DPI throughput 9067 Mbps; 20,000 new sessions per second.
  • Firewall, DoS defense, IP/MAC/URL filtering, IP-MAC binding and one-click ALG activation.
  • Dual redundant AC power and 4 kV surge protection; 1U rack-mount case.

Ordering notes

Order code ER8411 (hardware 1.20, UN). The package contains the gateway, power cord, quick installation guide, rack-mount kit and RJ45 cable (as printed in the datasheet). The 10G SFP+ ports take separate transceivers. Where throughput stays below about 1 Gbps, the ER7206 is the cost-effective step; choose the ER8411 when a 10G uplink, many tunnels or a large session table is needed.

Rack installation and power notes

Mount it in a standard 19-inch rack. The two fans and the 0 to 40 degrees C operating range need front-to-back airflow in the room. Both AC supplies are fixed, so connect them to separate circuits where available to use the redundancy. As with the other Omada gateways, zero-touch provisioning needs the cloud-based controller, and some portal and SD-WAN functions need controller mode.

Enterprise branch and data-room use

Typical sites are enterprise head offices, data rooms and campuses with a fibre ISP handoff at 10G, where the gateway also terminates branch VPNs. Its throughput is stated for specific test software and may vary in real traffic.

Information to send with an RFQ for the TP-Link ER8411 Omada VPN Gateway with 10G Ports

Network hardware is easier to quote correctly when the application is clear. For the TP-Link ER8411 Omada VPN Gateway with 10G Ports, tell us how many sites or users it will serve, the WAN connections at each site (fibre, DSL, LTE or microwave) and the throughput you expect with firewall and VPN rules active, because encrypted throughput is usually well below the headline routing figure.

  • Quantity, and whether spare units are needed for critical sites.
  • Power arrangement: included adapter, PoE input or DC supply from a site battery.
  • Optics: the SFP or SFP+ modules and fibre type, single-mode or multimode, if fibre ports will be used.
  • Mounting: desk, wall, DIN rail, pole or 19-inch rack, and any enclosure needed outdoors.

If the device is replacing existing equipment, the current configuration or a short description of the network layout helps confirm that the replacement supports the same features.
