Input characteristics of the BMXDAI1602
Discrete inputs: 16 isolated conforming to IEC 60947-5-2 at 24 V AC; 16 isolated conforming to IEC 61131-2 Type 1 at 24 V DC. Input voltage: 24 V ACisolated; 24 V DC.
The ability to read both AC and DC at 24 V helps in older plants with mixed control voltages. The datasheet lists on and off thresholds and current.
Mixed-voltage design with the BMXDAI1602
Where the control voltage is 24 V DC only, the BMXDDI1602 is the DC module of the same family. The AC/DC unit has more flexible use but different thresholds.
Verify the signals are not noisy.

Wiring and diagnostics of the BMXDAI1602
Wire per the diagram, check channel LEDs, and test each input.
Look for noise on long cables.
Typical applications of the BMXDAI1602 in Oman and the GCC
In Oman and the GCC it reads field status in older mixed-voltage plants.
Dimensions, environment and approvals of the BMXDAI1602
For the BMXDAI1602, plan the mounting space from the datasheet: 32 mm (W) x 103.7 mm (H) x 86 mm (D). The BMXDAI1602 weighs 0.115 kg. Mounting, derating and enclosure choices follow the environmental data below, which should be compared with the actual panel temperature and the dust and humidity of the site in Oman and the GCC.
Ambient temperature limits in the datasheet: -40 to 85 °C. Relative humidity: 5 to 95 % 55 °C without condensation. Ingress protection: IP20. Operating altitude: 0 to 2000 m; 2000 to 5000 m with derating. Vibration resistance: 3 gn. Shock resistance: 30 gn. Standards listed: IEC 61131-2.
An AC and DC capable input module like the BMXDAI1602 is a good tool for retrofit work where signals from older panels are mixed. The reference clearly states 24 V input only, so it should not be connected to 110 or 230 V signals; use interposing relays for those. Pay attention to leakage current from long cables or from proximity sensors on AC, which can keep an input on even when the contact is open, and to the response time of AC signals, which is longer than that for DC because the module needs to detect a stable level. The status LEDs show the state of each channel and are the first aid in fault finding. Keep a list of which channel has which polarity and logic, since the module accepts both and the configuration is held in the project. Include the module in the spares list of old plants because many are already installed.

Site conditions in Oman for the BMXDAI1602
Control cabinets in Gulf plants often run hot, because many sit in outdoor kiosks or in rooms where air conditioning is not always reliable. Before you finalise the BMXDAI1602, check the permitted ambient range and any derating stated by the manufacturer against the real temperature inside your panel, and leave the recommended spacing around the device so that heat can escape. Long cable runs between the field and the marshalling cabinet are common on large sites, so confirm the signal types, wiring limits and earthing arrangement early in the design.
It also helps to standardise on a small number of part numbers across a project. Keeping a few spare BMXDAI1602 units on site in Oman shortens recovery time after a fault, and documenting configuration settings makes replacement faster for the maintenance team.

About brand
Schneider Electric is the French group for energy management and industrial automation: low and medium voltage switchgear and circuit breakers, motor control, drives, PLCs, power monitoring, UPS systems and building management. Its history goes back to 1836, when the brothers Adolphe and Eugène Schneider took over the iron and steel works at Le Creusot in Burgundy. Over the 20th century the company left steel and heavy engineering and became an electrical group through acquisitions such as Merlin Gerin, Télémécanique, Square D and Modicon. Its head office is in Rueil-Malmaison near Paris, and its shares are listed on Euronext Paris.

Milestones
- 1836: The Schneider brothers acquire the Le Creusot works; the business grows in steel, locomotives and heavy engineering.
- 1975: First investment in Merlin Gerin, a French maker of electrical distribution equipment.
- 1988–1992: Télémécanique, Square D (USA) and Merlin Gerin join the group, making it an electrical specialist.
- 1997: Modicon, the company behind the first programmable logic controller, joins the group.
- 1999: The group takes the name Schneider Electric.
- 2007 and 2014: APC (UPS and data centre power) and Invensys (process automation) are acquired.
Choosing Schneider Electric breakers and motor control
Circuit breakers are chosen by current and breaking capacity. Acti9 miniature circuit breakers (iC60, C120) protect final circuits up to 125 A. ComPacT NSX molded case breakers cover about 16 to 630 A, and the letter after the frame size sets the breaking capacity: B, F, N, H, S, L from lowest to highest. MasterPacT air circuit breakers are used as main incomers on large switchboards. For motors, a TeSys contactor with an LRD overload relay or a GV2 motor circuit breaker suits direct starting, an Altistart soft starter reduces starting current, and an Altivar drive controls speed. The breaking capacity must always be at least the prospective short-circuit current at the point of installation.
Where Schneider Electric products are used
In Oman and the GCC, Schneider Electric equipment is found in main and sub-main switchboards of commercial and residential buildings, motor control centres in water, oil and gas and industrial plants, substations protected by Sepam and Easergy relays, data centres powered by Galaxy and APC UPS systems, and buildings controlled by EcoStruxure Building Operation.
