Phoenix Contact QUINT4-PS/1AC/24DC/20 Power Supply 24 V 20 A
Description
QUINT4-PS/1AC/24DC/20 power supply, 24 V DC 20 A with SFB technology
The QUINT4-PS/1AC/24DC/20 (item number 2904602) is a single-phase, primary-switched QUINT POWER supply that turns a 100 to 240 V AC mains into a stabilised 24 V DC output rated at 20 A, or 480 W. It belongs to the fourth generation of the QUINT POWER family and combines a wide-range input, a reserve of output power for starting heavy loads, SFB technology for tripping circuit breakers selectively, and preventive monitoring that reports a problem before the voltage actually falls. Seven Star LLC supplies the QUINT4-PS/1AC/24DC/20 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat, and this page explains what the type code means and what the manufacturer data sheet states so that an RFQ can be written correctly.
Reading the QUINT4-PS/1AC/24DC/20 type code
- QUINT4-PS is the QUINT POWER power supply of the fourth generation.
- 1AC means a single-phase AC input (the data sheet also allows 110 to 250 V DC feeding).
- 24DC is the nominal output voltage of 24 V DC.
- 20 is the nominal output current in amperes, giving 480 W of output power.
The same family continues with 5 A, 10 A and 40 A single-phase versions, a 20 A three-phase version and further variants with higher output voltages or protective coating, so the 20 A single-phase type sits in the middle of the range.

How the QUINT4-PS/1AC/24DC/20 supports the load
The QUINT4-PS/1AC/24DC/20 regulates its output to the value set on the front, between 24 and 29.5 V DC, and the characteristic can be chosen so that the unit behaves like a constant-voltage source with power reserves. Three reserves matter in practice. The static boost lets the unit deliver 25 A (125 % of nominal) for as long as the temperature allows, which helps with loads that grow after commissioning. The dynamic boost allows 30 A for five seconds, enough to start contactors, valves or capacitive loads without the voltage collapsing. The SFB (selective fuse breaking) reserve supplies 120 A for 15 ms, so that a short circuit on one branch trips its miniature circuit breaker magnetically while the other branches stay powered.
On the QUINT4-PS/1AC/24DC/20, mains buffering of at least 20 ms bridges short dropouts, and an integrated gas-filled surge arrester together with a varistor protects the input. The data sheet gives type-test insulation values and notes that the arrester can influence field insulation tests, so site test procedures should follow the manufacturer note.
Monitoring and signaling on the 20 A unit
Besides the LED bar graph that shows the load as a percentage of nominal power, the unit offers two configurable signal outputs and a relay contact. By default Out 1 reports that the output voltage is above 0.9 times the set value, and Out 2 can act as a digital warning when output power exceeds nominal or as an analogue 4 to 20 mA signal with a load up to 400 Ω. The remote input can switch the output to sleep mode, in which no-load losses stay below 5 W. NFC lets the signal functions and the output characteristic be configured without opening the cabinet.
Where it fits in a system and related types
At 480 W the QUINT4-PS/1AC/24DC/20 is typically used as a cabinet main supply for PLC racks, I/O, instrumentation loops, solenoid valves and small drives control circuits. Neighbouring types in the same series are the QUINT4-PS/1AC/24DC/5, QUINT4-PS/1AC/24DC/10 and QUINT4-PS/1AC/24DC/40 for other loads, and the QUINT4-PS/3AC/24DC/20 where only a three-phase supply is available. For redundancy the manufacturer lists redundancy modules in the QUINT family; two supplies can also be paralleled directly because the data sheet allows parallel connection for redundancy and capacity. Accessories named in the data sheet include the UWA 182/52 and UWA 130 universal wall adapters for strong vibration, a QUINT-PS-ADAPTERS7/1 for S7-300 rails, an NFC USB adapter, Type 2/3 and Type 3 surge protection plugs and multi-channel electronic circuit breakers.
Selection checklist for the QUINT4-PS/1AC/24DC/20
- Add up the continuous 24 V load and keep roughly 20 to 25 % reserve so the unit does not live in boost.
- Check the largest inrush or starting current against the 30 A dynamic boost and the 120 A SFB pulse.
- Confirm that the upstream breaker is one of the characteristics shown in the data sheet input-protection table (13 A or 16 A types are fully covered).
- Decide whether redundancy is required and whether a separate redundancy module is planned.
- Check ambient temperature around the QUINT4-PS/1AC/24DC/20 in the cabinet; above 60 °C output derates by 2.5 % per kelvin, and above 2,000 m altitude derating applies.
- Choose mounting orientation: standard 70 mm width or turned by 90 degrees (122 x 130 x 73 mm).
Installation, commissioning and maintenance
Mount the QUINT4-PS/1AC/24DC/20 on a 35 mm DIN rail with free space above and below for convection. Wire the input with the supplied screw terminals (conductors up to 6 mm² solid, 4 mm² flexible, tightening torque 0.5 to 0.6 Nm), set the output voltage to suit voltage drop in the cable, and configure the signal outputs before sealing the cabinet. During commissioning verify the LED bar graph under real load, test the relay contact path in the PLC and, where used, confirm that a deliberately tripped branch breaker leaves the rest of the load running. Preventive checks are limited to cleaning dust from the vents and reviewing the signal outputs; because the manufacturer quotes capacitor-based life figures, plan a replacement schedule for plants that run continuously at high temperature.
Typical applications in Oman and the GCC
In the Gulf region the QUINT4-PS/1AC/24DC/20 is used in control panels for oil and gas gathering stations, utility and desalination plants, power-plant auxiliaries and water-treatment skids. The wide AC input suits both 230 V and 110 V sources, the extended temperature range suits panels without full air conditioning, and the marine approvals listed in the data sheet are useful on offshore support vessels and platforms. Dust and humidity should be handled by the cabinet rather than the unit, because the data sheet specifies IP20 and non-condensing humidity up to 95 %.
