Metrel MI 3242 MicroOhm 2A Low Resistance Ohmmeter
Description
A portable micro-ohm meter for joints, contacts, windings and cables
The Metrel MI 3242 MicroOhm 2A is a portable low resistance ohmmeter for measuring the resistance of switches, relays, connectors, busbars, power distribution cable joints, motor and generator windings, power transformers, power inductors, rail track joints, wire and cable, and welded joints in industrial applications. It measures bidirectionally from 1 micro-ohm up to 199.9 ohm with a test current up to 2 A.
Four measuring modes cover the common jobs: automatic, single, continuous and inductive. In the inductive mode it measures motor and generator windings, power transformers, inductors and long cables, which need time to settle. Automatic bidirectional measurement eliminates thermal EMF, 50 Hz and 60 Hz ripple is detected and rejected, and the best resolution is 1 micro-ohm at 0.25 % accuracy.
An overvoltage rating of CAT III / 600 V allows measurement in substations and other points with low line resistance, and an internal protection circuit protects the user and the instrument from inadvertent connection to live lines. Custom limits give a PASS or FAIL verdict with bright green and red indicators. The internal memory holds up to 1500 results with timestamp, and the HVLink PRO software downloads, reviews, analyses and prints them. Battery life is more than 800 measurements of a 500 milliohm load at 2 A with a 15 s measurement duration.

Using it and what the set contains
The standard set (ST) includes the instrument, a test cable with Kelvin probe, a 2.5 m four-wire test cable, four crocodile clips, two test probes, a power adapter with six 1.2 V NiMH batteries, RS232 and USB cables, a soft carrying bag, the HVLink PRO software, the instruction manual and a calibration certificate. Optional accessories listed are a Kelvin test cable, test cable with Kelvin probe, large Kelvin test clip, large crocodile clips and a class 0.1 reference resistor of 750 micro-ohm (A 1333 V2) for checking the instrument.
Four-wire Kelvin connection removes the lead resistance from the reading, which is why the test cable with Kelvin probe and the Kelvin clips matter when measuring a few micro-ohms on a busbar joint or a bolted connection.
What to confirm before ordering
State the lowest resistance you need to resolve and the highest test current your object allows, since the 2 A range is the most sensitive and the leaflet shows lower currents for higher resistances. Confirm the clips and probes for the contact geometry (large Kelvin clips for busbars, for example), whether a reference resistor is wanted, and the calibration certificate requirement. The leaflet notes that photographs may differ slightly from the delivered instrument and that specifications can change without notice.

About brand
Metrel is a Slovenian manufacturer of electrical installation testers and power quality instruments, based in Horjul near Ljubljana. It was set up in 1957 as a factory making electrical measuring instruments and components for the domestic market and grew into an exporter whose testers are sold through distributors in more than 70 countries. Metrel d.o.o. designs, builds and calibrates its instruments in Slovenia.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Metrel testers for electrical contractors, utilities and maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC.

Ordering Metrel instruments: what we need
Give the complete model name and the set you want, because Metrel sells most instruments as standard, Euro or advanced sets with different leads, clamps and software licences. List accessories separately and state the standard your testing must follow. If you are unsure of the model, describe the installation, test voltage and measurements required.
Facts checked against Metrel's own company pages (metrel.si) and trade directories, October 2026.
