Hioki FT6031-50 IP67 Earth Ground Resistance Tester

Description

A field-tough earth tester that checks itself before measuring

The Hioki FT6031-50 is an earth resistance tester for fall-of-potential measurements with auxiliary earthing rods, built for outdoor work. It carries IP67 protection even with the terminal caps open (the specifications list IP65/IP67), is drop-proof from 1 m onto concrete with its protector attached, and has a vibration-resistant design and a large LCD with a wide viewing angle.

Pressing MEASURE starts an automatic sequence. The tester first checks the measurement cables for line breaks and checks the disturbance voltage (noise), then checks the auxiliary earthing electrodes, and finally measures the earth resistance in auto-range, showing a warning if a check fails so that the technician can decide quickly what to fix. Accuracy is +/-1.5 % rdg. +/-8 dgt. on the 20 ohm range, a zero-adjustment function cancels wiring resistance on long cable runs, and the tolerance for the resistance of the auxiliary earthing electrodes is ten times higher than before, so a single insertion of the rods is usually enough even in dry soil.

Two or three-electrode measurement can be chosen, with automatic internal switching of connections so no short bar is needed. Three-electrode measurement is the standard method with the rods placed in a straight line about 5 to 10 m apart; the two-electrode method can measure Class D ground by using the Class B ground of a pole-mounted transformer, in which case the value includes the Class B resistance.

What is in the set and how it is used

The standard accessories are the L9840 stainless-steel auxiliary earthing rods (2 pieces, 270 mm), a 4 m black measurement cable with alligator clip (L9841), a 10 m yellow cable with winder (L9842-11), a 20 m red cable with winder (L9842-22), a carrying case, a protector, four LR6 batteries and the manual. The winders let a 20 m cord be rewound about twice as quickly as a conventional reel and keep it free of tangles. Options include 50 m cables with flat cable winder (L9843-51, -52), a simplified-method test lead L9787, earth nets and the carrying case C0106.

The FT6031-90 is a set of the FT6031-50 and the Bluetooth Wireless Adapter Z3210, which sends measurements to a smartphone or tablet for report creation with site photos and drawings in GENNECT Cross.

What to confirm before ordering

Choose between the FT6031-50 and the FT6031-90 set, and decide on cable lengths: 10 m and 20 m cables are standard but large electrode systems may need the 50 m options. Confirm the earthing standard you test against, the soil conditions for the auxiliary rods, and whether your procedure needs a certificate. For stakeless testing of multi-grounded systems, the clamp-type FT6380-50 is the matching tool.

Ordering Hioki instruments: what we need

Send the full order code, because Hioki uses suffixes to separate versions, for example sets with wireless adapters or different leads. Name the accessories you need, such as test leads, clamps, current sensors, the Z3210 wireless adapter and carrying cases, and say if a calibration certificate is required. If the model is uncertain, describe the circuit, the voltage and the quantity to be measured.
