Hatz B-Series 1B30 Air-Cooled Single-Cylinder Diesel Engine
Description
A compact air-cooled diesel for vibration plates, pumps and generator sets
The Hatz 1B30 is the reference model of the Hatz B-Series, a family of single-cylinder, air-cooled, four-stroke direct-injection diesel engines for mobile and stationary machinery with a power requirement up to about 8 kilowatts. Hatz describes the series as having been used in everything from vibration plates to polar conditions, and its short overall length comes from the patented Single Cam System, in which one cam and rocker arms operate both the injection pump and the valves on the mechanically controlled engines.
This page covers the series as printed in the manufacturer data sheet: 1B20, 1B30, 1B30E, 1B30VE, 1B40, 1B50 and 1B50E. The E versions belong to the Hatz E1 family with electronic injection and a standard J1939 CAN interface; the others are mechanically controlled. All seven share the same basic power train, so displacement and installation space can be matched to the machine.

Variants, control and emissions
Three engines in the series carry the E1 electronics: the 1B30E, the 1B30VE with vertical crankshaft and the 1B50E. The data sheet states that they are controlled through the ECU over CAN J1939 and can drive CAN displays, and that the E1 models meet EPA Tier 4 final and EU Stage V, including at variable speed. Mechanical engines use a stage switch or analogue speed control. The data sheet also lists an optional silent noise package that lowers noise by 2 to 4 dB(A) on suitable types, and a 1B50E version with a passive diesel particulate filter for EU Stage V in defined applications.
Several power take-off options are drawn in the data sheet, including cylindrical shafts of 19.05, 25.4 and 25 mm with keyway, conical shafts and SAE generator flanges, with a permanent magnet alternator of 2 to 7 kW mountable on the flywheel side. Hatz builds its flywheel-integrated generator (fiPMG) on the 1B30E and 1B50E; that is listed separately on this site.
Selecting a B-Series engine
Start from the power and speed the driven machine needs, then check the rating basis. Hatz quotes blocked ISO fuel stop power (IFN) for intermittent loading per ISO 3046-1, with separate figures for variable and constant speed and for less regulated markets. The data sheet gives derating of about 1 percent per 100 m above 100 m altitude and about 4 percent per 10 degrees C above 25 degrees C, which matters for hot sites, and the power drawn by the charging alternator must be added to the machine demand.
Before ordering, confirm the exact model code, shaft form, starting method (recoil or electric, 12 V or 24 V), mechanical or electronic control, the emission certificate your market needs and the installation dimensions and permitted inclination. Drawings in PDF and DXF are available from the manufacturer.

About brand
Hatz is a German manufacturer of air-cooled and liquid-cooled diesel engines for machinery, with its headquarters in Ruhstorf an der Rott. The company builds single-cylinder B-Series and D-Series engines, three- and four-cylinder F-Series and H-Series engines and flywheel-integrated permanent magnet generators. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, lists Hatz engines and generators for equipment builders and plant owners in Oman and the GCC.
Hatz engine series
The B-Series is an air-cooled single-cylinder diesel up to about 8 kW, and the D-Series reaches 11.2 kW in a single cylinder. The F-Series adds liquid-cooled engines up to 18.4 kW, and the H-Series common-rail engines reach 64 kW. The fiPMG generator is built into the flywheel of the 1B30E and 1B50E engines as a battery charger or AC generator.
Ordering Hatz engines
Send the model code, shaft form, starting method, control type (mechanical or electronic), emission requirement, speed and duty. We check the code against the manufacturer data sheet before quoting.
