Overview
The Bosch Rexroth A2FO is a fixed displacement axial piston pump of bent-axis design for hydrostatic drives in an open circuit. Data sheet RE 91401 describes series 6 in sizes from 5 to 1000 cm³ per revolution, for use in both mobile and stationary applications. Its flow is proportional to drive speed and displacement, and its tapered piston rotary group gives high power density, small dimensions and high total efficiency. Nominal pressure is 400 bar with 450 bar maximum for sizes 10 to 200, 350/400 bar for sizes 250 to 1000, and 315/350 bar for size 5.

Operating Principle
In the Bosch Rexroth A2FO the cylinder block is inclined at a fixed angle to the drive shaft. Tapered pistons are connected to the drive flange, so as the shaft rotates the pistons move in and out of their bores in the cylinder block. During one half of the revolution each piston draws fluid from the suction port, and during the other half it pushes fluid to the pressure port. Because the angle between shaft and cylinder block does not change, the displacement per revolution is fixed and the delivered flow depends only on the drive speed. Rexroth uses one-piece tapered pistons with piston rings for sealing.
The practical consequence is that the Bosch Rexroth A2FO is a simple, rugged pump with very few control parts. The case pressure must be equal to or higher than ambient pressure, and a mean differential of 2 bar between case and ambient should not be exceeded at normal operating temperature. Rexroth asks for a cleanliness level of at least 20/18/15 to ISO 4406, and at least 19/17/14 at very high fluid temperatures from 90 °C up to 115 °C.
