Brand: Hatz
Hatz F-Series 3F45 Liquid-Cooled Diesel Engine and OPU
Description
Compact liquid-cooled diesels up to 19 kW, delivered as a ready-to-install unit
The Hatz 3F45 is part of the Hatz F-Series, which extends the Hatz range of water-cooled industrial diesel engines with compact three- and four-cylinder engines up to 19 kilowatts. Displacements are 0.95, 1.1, 1.3 and 1.75 litres, and Hatz states that eleven engine models cover outputs from 7.5 to 18.4 kW and torque from 48 to 76 Nm, meeting EU Stage V and EPA Tier 4 final without exhaust aftertreatment.
All F-Series variants are offered as an Open Power Unit (OPU). Besides the standard scope, the air filter, silencer, radiator and wiring harness are already fitted at delivery, so the machine builder has no assembly work on the cooling, fuel, electrical and combustion air systems. The data sheet lists a 250-hour maintenance interval, ambient operation up to 50 degrees C and a manufacturer extended warranty of up to five years for the whole system as features of the OPU.

Fan arrangement, speed classes and control
The data sheet distinguishes two fan layouts. VS (variable speed) engines use a suction fan with a radiator fan and are designed for variable-speed work; CS (constant speed) engines use a pressurised fan with a diameter of 340 mm. Variable-speed engines are also available in a fan-to-flywheel configuration for applications needing extra hydraulic oil cooling. Rated speeds in the power chart include 1500 and 1800 rpm for constant speed and 2400 to 3000 rpm for variable speed.
For the European market the engines have a mechanical governor, with an electronic governor optional; the EPA models come with an electronic governor as standard. In the table, the E suffix (3F35E, 3F45E, 4F45E) identifies the electronically governed versions.
Selecting the right F-Series engine
Choose the cylinder count and displacement from the power and torque needed at the working speed, then confirm the speed class (VS or CS) and whether the duty is prime or standby, because the data sheet gives separate figures such as 10.8 kW standby and 9.4 kW prime for the 3F35E at 1800 rpm. Check the flywheel and housing (6.5 or 7.5 inch flywheel and SAE 5 housing), the starter and alternator ratings, the cold start limit of minus 15 degrees C and the basic engine or OPU weight and dimensions.
Hatz points to a network of more than 500 service centres for spare parts and repair; confirm local parts support and service intervals for the application before ordering.
How the Hatz 3F45 works
The 3F45 is a three-cylinder, liquid-cooled four-stroke diesel. Fuel is injected mechanically into a swirl chamber and ignited by compression. Coolant circulates through the engine and the radiator of the Open Power Unit to carry the heat away.
Where the 3F45 is used
- Generator sets
- Compact construction machines
- Pumps and compressors
- Agricultural and municipal machinery
- Machine builders needing a ready-to-install power pack

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes for the 3F45
Mount the unit on a rigid frame with clear air for the radiator. Connect the fuel line, the battery and the control wiring. Check the coolant and oil levels before the first start. Follow the maintenance interval in the data sheet.

About brand
Hatz is a German maker of industrial diesel engines, founded in 1880 and based in Ruhstorf an der Rott.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Hatz engines for equipment builders and owners in Oman and the GCC.
Hatz product series
Air-cooled engines include the B-Series 1B30 and the D-Series 1D90 single-cylinder diesels. Liquid-cooled engines include the F-Series 3F45 with open power unit and the H-Series 4H50TIC common-rail diesel.
The fiPMG is a flywheel-integrated permanent magnet generator for power generation.
Air-cooled engines need no radiator or coolant and suit hot, dusty and remote sites, while liquid-cooled engines give lower noise and higher power. Engines are selected by power at the operating speed, drive arrangement and emission requirements.
Open power units include the engine with cooling and controls ready to fit to the driven machine.
Where Hatz engines are used
Pumps, compressors, generators, lighting towers, construction and agricultural machines.
