The Donaldson Ultrapac Smart 0005-0100 is a heatless regenerated desiccant dryer for small and medium compressed air flows, from 5 to 100 m3/h. It reaches a pressure dew point of -40 C at full load and -70 C at 70 percent load, uses cartridge-type desiccant packs that are exchanged one by one, and is built so that the same dryer can be installed vertically or horizontally, with the display turned down or mounted away from the vessel.

Two versions exist. Standard has an UltraSilencer, UltraPleat pre- and after-filter, LED status indicator, orifice set and alarm contact. Superplus adds a touch display, dew point transmitter and dew-point-dependent capacity control, rotatable connections, variable filter modules, independent display mounting and Industry 4.0 readiness.

Regeneration air in the table is the averaged consumption. The MINI models stand 490 to 1,558 mm high and the MIDI models 849 to 1,905 mm (Standard version).

Why the modular design matters

Height can be traded for depth by adding adsorber modules at the back with parallel flow, which halves the dryer height; the sheet shows two 50 m3/h modules replacing one 100 m3/h tower. Inlet and outlet modules rotate, so there is no pipe adaptation when the plant layout changes, and a wall bracket is among the options.

For sizing, divide the compressor flow by the factor from the temperature and pressure table. The sheet example converts 22 m3/h at 25 C and 12 bar(g) with factor 1.47 to 14.97 m3/h, and selects the 0015 size. Service keeps the dryer in the pipeline: no special tools are required and spare parts are accessible, which reduces downtime.

Compressed air quality is set by ISO 8573-1 classes for particles, water and oil. A typical instrument air system uses a coarse filter and a fine coalescing filter before the dryer, an adsorption dryer for a low pressure dew point (for example -40 °C), and a dust filter after it. An activated carbon stage removes oil vapour where the air touches food or is breathed. Heatless dryers use some of the dry air to regenerate the desiccant, while heat-regenerated and zero-purge types save that air on larger systems.
