Brand:

Donaldson UFM-D30 / D30HP / D130 High-Capacity Condensate Drain

Description

The big-flow versions of the level-controlled drain

The Donaldson UFM-D30, UFM-D30 HP and UFM-D130 are the high-capacity members of the Ultramat family: electronically level-controlled drains for central compressor stations, big aftercoolers, large receivers and the pre-filters of large dryers. Like the smaller drains they lose no compressed air, but they handle condensate flows of up to 130 m3/min of compressor capacity and filters up to 1,300 m3/min.

The HP version is made for 1.2 to 40 bar(g) and is the one to use on high-pressure systems, and in the D130 the condensate inlet is a three-port manifold for large volumes. All three have an IP 65 controller and a 230 V supply.

How the large drains differ from D03 to D10

Capacity is the obvious difference: D30 is rated for 30 m3/min of compressor output and D130 for 130 m3/min, against 2.5 to 10 m3/min for the small drains. The enclosure is IP 65 instead of IP 54, the supply is a single 230 V range, and the optional heater and insulation cover let the drain work in an unheated compressor room where condensate could freeze.

  • UFM-D30: Pressure bar(g) 0.8-16; Compressor m3/min 30; Fridge dryer m3/min 60; Filter m3/min 300; Weight kg 2.0
  • UFM-D30 HP: Pressure bar(g) 1.2-40; Compressor m3/min 30; Fridge dryer m3/min 60; Filter m3/min 300; Weight kg 2.2
  • UFM-D130: Pressure bar(g) 0.8-16; Compressor m3/min 130; Fridge dryer m3/min 260; Filter m3/min 1,300; Weight kg 2.9

Application notes

Donaldson recommends the drains at compressors, aftercoolers, receivers, pre- and after-filters of refrigeration dryers, pre-filters of adsorption dryers, condensate and oil removal filters and pipe bends. The sensor detects any kind of condensate, which is why the same drain can serve oily and clean points.

Note that the sheet states a different condensate type for each variant, and that CO2 plants are excluded. For recommended cable and fuse data, the sheet suggests a cable jacket of 5.8 to 8.5 mm, a conductor cross-section of 0.75 to 1.5 mm2 and a 1 A time-lag fuse. The document says it is a translation of the German original, so check wording-critical values against the original if needed.

About brand

Donaldson is the American filtration company founded in Minnesota in 1915. It started when Frank Donaldson Sr. built an air cleaner for a tractor engine that kept failing in dusty fields. It is now headquartered in Bloomington, Minnesota, and makes filters and filtration systems for engines, hydraulics, compressed air and gases, dust collection and process liquids.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Donaldson compressed air dryers and filters, gas filter housings, activated carbon adsorbers, hydraulic and fuel filtration and dust collectors, and supply them and their replacement elements in Oman and the GCC.

Milestones

  • 1915: Frank Donaldson Sr. builds an air cleaner for a tractor that kept failing in a dusty field; the family starts Donaldson Company in Minnesota.
  • 1917: Air cleaners are supplied for artillery tractors.
  • 1920s: Exhaust products are added after crop fires caused by engine sparks.
  • 1974: Donaldson acquires Torit, the dust collector business.
  • 2015: The company marks its 100th year.

Compressed air quality is set by ISO 8573-1 classes for particles, water and oil. A typical instrument air system uses a coarse filter and a fine coalescing filter before the dryer, an adsorption dryer for a low pressure dew point (for example -40 °C), and a dust filter after it. An activated carbon stage removes oil vapour where the air touches food or is breathed. Heatless dryers use some of the dry air to regenerate the desiccant, while heat-regenerated and zero-purge types save that air on larger systems.

Where Donaldson products are used

In Oman and the GCC, Donaldson filters and dryers are used for instrument and plant air in oil and gas, refining, power and desalination plants, for breathing air, in food and pharmaceutical production, on hydraulic systems and fuel storage, and in cement and bulk handling.
