Handling and cabinet integration

This is a heavy unit at 40.78 kg and 685 x 308 x 311 mm (H x W x D), so lifting equipment is useful and the cabinet back plate must be rated for the weight. The RFI filter is the H3 version, listed for class A1/B (C1) emissions, and the P21 housing is a backplate version intended to be built into an enclosure.

The heat of up to 698 W has to be removed by cabinet fans or a heat exchanger. The manufacturer guide gives the minimum free space above and below the heat sink, which in a crowded motor-control centre is often the limiting dimension.

Pump functions worth using

The AQUA guide includes the cascade controller for several pumps, sleep mode, short-cycle protection and an energy log. On a 37 kW pump set with an operating schedule that changes through the day, sleep mode and the cascade function can reduce the running hours of the pumps; the effect on energy use is plant-specific and has to be measured.

The type code ends in a string of X characters, which means no brake chopper, uncoated boards, no mains option and no option cards. Variants with a brake chopper, coated boards or a fieldbus have other code numbers.

For a station with duty and standby pumps, order identical drives for both, so that spare parts and parameter files can be shared. Keep a spare control card and fans on the shelf if the site is remote, since replacing a cooling fan is a routine maintenance item for drives of this size and a stocked part shortens the repair.

Choosing Danfoss products

For solenoid valves, check the operating principle. A direct-operated valve such as EV210B opens even at 0 bar differential pressure. A servo-operated valve such as EV220B needs a minimum differential (typically about 0.3 bar) to open, while an assisted-lift valve such as EV250B works from 0 bar. Coils are ordered separately, so the voltage on the coil (for example 230 V AC or 24 V DC) must match the control circuit. For drives, the VLT family is split by application: FC 51 Micro Drive for small machines, FC 102 HVAC Drive for fans and pumps in buildings, FC 202 AQUA Drive for water, and FC 302 AutomationDrive for demanding industrial duty.
