Axis I8116-E Network Video Intercom with SIP and 5 MP Camera

Description

A slim video intercom that is also a security camera

The Axis I8116-E is a compact network video intercom in a mullion form factor. It combines a 5 MP camera with a 162 degree horizontal field of view, a built-in speaker and two microphones with echo cancellation, noise reduction and beamforming, and a call button. It works as a communication device and as a camera at the entrance, with remote entry control by SIP call or from a video management system.

Open standards support integration: ONVIF Profiles G, M and S, and SIP with SRTP, SIPS and TLS for registration with a PBX or peer-to-peer calls. An OSDP reader can be wired to the I/O connector for access control with Axis access control software, and the device can switch a door lock through an Axis A9801 security relay or Axis network door controllers. The CV25 chip with a deep learning processing unit runs AXIS Object Analytics on the device.

Planning an entrance intercom and access scheme

A video intercom must fit three things: the mounting position, the lock and the call destination. The datasheet recommends a mounting height of 0.9 to 1.5 m, so check the camera view against a person of normal height and a wheelchair user. For the lock choose between the A9801 relay and an Axis door controller; the current and voltage limits printed in the datasheet decide whether an external relay is needed for the actual lock.

Calls can go to a SIP phone, a PBX or an operator station, which should be named in the enquiry. If access is controlled by credentials, an OSDP reader can be wired to the I/O terminal, but the reader and the access control software must be selected separately. The casing is IP65 and IK08; for vandal-prone locations Axis lists a protection cover that raises the rating to IK10.

Industrial plants that need a harder intercom for process areas should compare the Axis I8016-LVE and the A8207-VE Mk II door station, which have different panel designs. State the colour (white or black), the mounting method, the SIP system, the lock type and the number of units when asking for a quotation.

About brand

Axis Communications is a Swedish maker of network video and security products, founded in 1984 in Lund by Martin Gren, Mikael Karlsson and Keith Bloodworth. It started with print servers and protocol converters for IBM environments and launched one of the first network cameras in 1996. Since 2015 Axis has been part of the Canon Group, run as a separate company from its Lund headquarters.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Axis cameras and devices for plant, site and facility security projects in Oman and the GCC.
