VAR2-LTE-i6-1 is the Raytec VARIO2 Lite i6: a core-function 850 nm infra-red illuminator with 12 LEDs, up to 200 m range, 12 to 24 V AC/DC input and telemetry on/off control.

VARIO2 performance without the advanced menus

Raytec positions VARIO2 Lite as the simplest form of VARIO2, designed for applications that need only core functionality, easy set-up and added security. It still carries the VARIO interchangeable lens system and Hot-spot Reduction Technology, so the beam can be matched to the camera view by swapping a lens insert, and it offers the same range as the standard VARIO2 line, up to 500 m for the i16 model.

The i6 has 12 LEDs, a maximum distance of 200 m and a maximum consumption of 25 W. It has a standby draw of 0.65 W with LEDs off. Control is by telemetry on/off, so there is no photocell menu or network interface as on the iP PoE range.

Lite, iP PoE or Extreme?

Order the Lite i6 where the camera needs medium-range IR and a photocell or contact in the camera or controller will switch the light. If the light must be configured, monitored and dimmed over the network, the VARIO2 iP PoE models are the datasheet alternative, and the Extreme versions suit salt, humidity and vibration.

Neighbouring Lite codes are VAR2-LTE-i4-1 (144 m), VAR2-LTE-i8-1 (350 m) and VAR2-LTE-i16-1 (500 m, 24 V). A 940 nm version is available; the datasheet asks users to contact Raytec for details. Lens codes follow the pattern VAR-iX-lens-8030 and VAR-iX-lens-12050 with X replaced by the size.

Installation notes

The unit ships with a U bracket and 2.5 m cable; VUB-WALL and VUB-POLE brackets are listed as options for any VARIO illuminator. Power from a 12 to 24 V AC/DC source; the datasheet lists PSU-VAR2 supplies from 20 W to 150 W and a configuration table for how many illuminators each can run.

Aim the illuminator along the camera axis and choose the lens so that the beam only slightly exceeds the camera field of view; a narrower lens gives longer distance, as the table above shows. The Lite installation guide 0330-D-00013 is published on the Raytec product page.

Applications in Oman and the GCC

Lite illuminators suit cost-sensitive CCTV upgrades: building perimeters, warehouses, compound gates, parking areas and roads. The +50 °C maximum and IP66 rating suit most Gulf installations if the unit is kept out of direct heat sources, but note there is no salinity or vibration rating in the Lite datasheet.

Selection and installation notes

A CCTV illuminator is selected from the camera, the distance and the width of the scene. Match the beam angle to the camera field of view, mount it close to the camera on a stable bracket, keep the lens clear of foliage and glass reflections, check the supply voltage under load and set the light level in the dark, not in daylight. Camera and illuminator should be aimed together at commissioning.
