Alfa Laval Unique Mixproof Double Seat Valve
Description
Alfa Laval Unique Mixproof double seat valve explained
The Alfa Laval Unique Mixproof is the premium double seat valve of the Unique range. It lets two different products or fluids flow through the same valve at the same time without the risk of mixing, because two independent seals and an open leakage chamber always separate the lines. The manufacturer describes the operation as spillage free and compliant with most hygienic standards. Seven Star LLC supplies these valves in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.
In practice, this valve is the junction element in a valve matrix: one line can carry product while the neighbouring line carries cleaning liquid or a second product, and the plant avoids the cost of two shut-off valves in series with a manual bleed. The manufacturer notes that a single Unique Mixproof valve can often replace two or more other types of valves.

How a double seat mixproof valve prevents mixing
A double seat valve has two plugs in series with a chamber between them. In the closed position the chamber is open to atmosphere through the drain outlet. If one seal ever starts to leak, the liquid flows into this chamber and out of the drain where an operator can see it, instead of crossing into the other line. This is why the design is called mixproof: the leak path is visible and external, not shared.
When the valve opens, the chamber is closed and flow passes from one line to the other. Double lip seals add a second layer of protection at the sealing points, and leakage detection on every seal supports early warning. The top-loaded construction means the internal parts are reached from the top of the valve, which keeps routine maintenance quick.
Where Unique Mixproof sits in the family
Alfa Laval offers three double seat Unique variants. The base model is the full-feature one with ThinkTop V70 support and optional SpiralClean. The CIP version is purpose-built for routing cleaning media, and the Process version is a predefined, cost-effective version with seat lift for fundamental hygienic duty. Standard SMP mixproof valves are a cheaper alternative where the extra features are not needed. For simple isolation without mixproof protection, a single seat valve is enough.
Selecting a Unique Mixproof valve
- Role: shut-off between two live lines, or a diverting arrangement inside a cluster.
- Size and connections: tube standard and the line sizes on both sides of the valve.
- Fluids: products, CIP chemicals, temperatures and pressures including pressure peaks.
- Seal materials: compatible with the product and cleaning agents.
- Cleaning: whether SpiralClean is needed for the seat areas.
- Controls: ThinkTop V70 or ThinkTop Basic, and the control system interface.
- Supply form: single valve or complete pre-tested valve cluster.
Installation and service of the valve
Mount the valve so that the leakage outlet drains freely and is visible to operators. Connect air supply with filtered, dry air and confirm the position feedback signals before introducing product. For a cluster, check that the manifold layout lets each valve drain, since thermal cycling and cleanability in complex arrangements are design points the manufacturer highlights.
Service is simplified by the top-loaded layout and the absence of adjustable parts. Schedule seal replacement on an hours or cycle basis and keep a seal kit on the shelf. When a seal is replaced, check the leakage chamber and drain for traces of product that point to earlier leakage.
Unique Mixproof applications in Oman and the GCC
Mixproof valves belong wherever several products share a piping network: dairies and juice plants, beverage bottling, edible oils and sauces, and personal care or pharmaceutical process lines. In Gulf plants that run long shifts in high ambient temperature, the ability to clean one line while the next keeps producing helps protect throughput. Pre-assembled valve clusters are useful for projects with tight commissioning schedules, because wiring and tubing arrive complete.
Because the manufacturer cites spillage-free operation, the valve also supports product recovery goals: less liquid is lost to drain during switching, and less cleaning water is needed. Pairing it with a ThinkTop unit is promoted as a way to cut cleaning media use, which is attractive in regions where water is a costly utility.
Choosing between the Unique Mixproof variants
| Variant | Positioning | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Base model | Premium, modular, ThinkTop V70, optional SpiralClean | Valve matrices with demanding product duty |
| CIP version | Lightweight, routes CIP media | CIP supply and return distribution |
| Process version | Compact, predefined sizes, seat lift | Fundamental hygienic processing |
| SMP mixproof | Standard, lower cost | Less demanding duty |

About brand
Alfa Laval is a Swedish engineering group built on three technologies: heat transfer, separation and fluid handling. Gustaf de Laval and Oscar Lamm founded the company in Stockholm in 1883 as AB Separator to make de Laval's continuous milk separator; the name Alfa-Laval was adopted in 1963. The company built its first heat exchanger in 1938, and today its plate heat exchangers, separators, pumps and valves are used in energy, marine, food, water and process industries. Group headquarters are in Lund, Sweden.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing Alfa Laval gasketed, fusion-bonded and welded plate heat exchangers and hygienic pumps for buyers in Oman and the GCC. Units and spare plates or gaskets are matched from the serial number on the frame nameplate.

Alfa Laval heat exchangers and pumps
| Model | Type | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| M6, M10, M15, T20 | Gasketed plate heat exchangers | HVAC and district cooling, cooling water, lube oil and process heating or cooling; plates can be added or cleaned |
| AlfaNova 27 | Fusion-bonded plate heat exchanger, all stainless steel | Compact duty where copper brazing is not acceptable, such as ammonia and some process fluids |
| Compabloc+ | Fully welded plate heat exchanger | Higher pressures and temperatures and aggressive media in refineries and chemical plants, without gaskets on the plate pack |
| LKH | Hygienic centrifugal pump | Food, beverage, dairy and pharmaceutical processing, with cleaning in place |
Where Alfa Laval equipment is used
In Oman and the GCC, Alfa Laval plate heat exchangers are common in district cooling plants, HVAC systems, power stations, desalination, oil and gas processing, refineries and marine engine rooms. Gasketed units suit duties that need regular cleaning or later capacity changes, while welded and fusion-bonded units handle higher pressures, temperatures and media that gaskets cannot. Hygienic LKH pumps serve dairy, juice and beverage plants.
Ordering Alfa Laval equipment: what we need
For spare plates and gaskets, send the serial number and model from the frame nameplate. Alfa Laval keeps the build record, which defines the plate material, pattern and gasket type for each position. For a new heat exchanger add both fluids, flow rates, inlet and outlet temperatures, allowed pressure drop, design pressure and temperature, and connection standard. For an LKH pump send the model, size, impeller diameter, motor data and duty point.

FAQ
Questions about the Alfa Laval Unique Mixproof Double Seat Valve
Answers from our engineering team on installation, compatibility and integration.
01What does Unique Mixproof mean?
It is a double seat valve that allows two different fluids to flow through the same valve at the same time without risk of cross-contamination.
02How is leakage handled?
Two independent seals are separated by a leakage chamber, so any leak drains out visibly. Built-in leakage detection is provided on all seals.
03How is it serviced?
The top-loaded design gives fast access, and the valve has no adjustable components and a maintenance-friendly actuator.
04Which control units match the valve?
Alfa Laval ThinkTop V70 and ThinkTop Basic sensing and control units are recommended to get the full benefit.
05Can complete valve clusters be supplied?
Yes. Pre-built clusters can be pre-assembled and pre-tested, fully wired with pneumatic tubing, junction boxes and control panels connected.
