Bently Nevada 330180-50-00 3300 XL Proximitor, 5 m Panel
Description
330180-50-00: 3300 XL Proximitor Sensor, 5.0 m system, panel mount
The Bently Nevada 330180-50-00 is a 3300 XL Proximitor Sensor for 3300 XL 8 mm eddy-current proximity probes. It is the signal conditioner that drives the probe tip, reads the change in coil impedance caused by the shaft and returns a negative dc voltage proportional to probe-to-target gap. This version is built for a 5.0 m (16.4 ft) system length in the panel mount style and carries no agency approval option.
The ordering pattern is 330180-AA-BB. For 330180-50-00 the first pair, 50, selects 5.0 m total system length with panel mount; the second pair, 00, means no agency approval is required.

How the 330180-50-00 turns gap into a voltage
The sensor drives the 3300 XL probe with a radio-frequency signal and watches how the target damps the probe coil. What comes out is a negative voltage proportional to gap: its dc level is the static position and its ac ripple is vibration. In the 5.0 m configuration the system reaches its tightest published tolerances, with a scale factor of 7.87 V/mm (200 mV/mil) ±5% and a best-fit-line deviation under 1 mil, which is why this standard length is the common choice for machinery protection channels.
330180-50-00 as the standard panel-mount unit: the common 5.0 m configuration
Code 50 is the 5.0 m system with traditional four-hole panel mounting. It shares the footprint of earlier Proximitor Sensor designs, so it is often fitted into existing enclosures and backplates where the original mounting holes are already drilled.
Probe and extension combinations that add to 5.0 m include a 1.0 m probe with a 4.0 m extension, a 1.5 m probe with 3.5 m, 2.0 m with 3.0 m, or a 5.0 m probe used alone. The datasheet states that the standard 3300 XL 8 mm 5 m system complies with API 670 for mechanical configuration, linear range, accuracy and temperature stability.
Related 3300 XL parts and family overview
The 330180-50-00 belongs to a four-way matrix of 3300 XL 8 mm Proximitor Sensors. Sibling parts are 330180-50-00 (5.0 m, panel mount), 330180-51-00 (5.0 m, DIN mount), 330180-90-00 (9.0 m, panel mount) and 330180-91-00 (9.0 m, DIN mount); the ordering table also lists 10, 11 and 12 for 1.0 m systems and 52 and 92 for 5.0 m and 9.0 m systems supplied without mounting hardware, plus option 05 for CSA, ATEX and IECEx approvals. Selection and ordering checklist for 330180-50-00
- Confirm the 5.0 m total of probe and extension cable
- Confirm panel mounting; the DIN equivalent is 330180-51-00
- Check whether four 6-32 UNC thread-forming screws are needed (supplied with the panel option)
- Choose connector protectors for probe and extension joints
- Confirm no agency approval is required, as option 00 is fitted
- Match the monitor input to the 3300 XL 200 mV/mil output
Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the 330180-50-00
Fix the sensor on its four screws, land the three-wire field cable in the SpringLoc strip and connect the ClickLoc connectors hand-tight. Because the base is isolated, the sensor housing does not need a separate insulating plate in a grounded enclosure.
At commissioning set the gap to around -9 Vdc, confirm the dc output moves linearly across the 0.25 to 2.3 mm range, and check dynamic output against a shaker or bump test where possible. Keep this part’s replacement as simple as unplugging the extension cable, swapping the sensor and rechecking the gap voltage.
- Keep a spare 330180-50-00 for stores because one part covers every 5 m XL 8 mm channel
- Silicone tape supplied with extension cables is not recommended in turbine-oil exposure
- Inspect connector protectors for cracks after heat cycles
- Tip-to-tip spacing guidance: about 40 mm axial and 38 mm radial
- Panel-mount mounting pad replacement is 138492-01
Typical applications in Oman and the GCC
In Oman and the GCC the 330180-50-00 is the workhorse sensor in vibration and position channels on pumps, motors, compressors and turbines in oil and gas, power generation, desalination and petrochemical plants. Panel-mount layouts are common where an existing backplate or cabinet already carries the four-hole pattern, and the 5 m length covers most machines where the cabinet is within a few metres of the bearing housing.

A proximity probe measures the gap to the shaft, so it sees shaft movement inside a fluid-film bearing directly. A velocity or acceleration sensor sits on the casing and suits rolling-element bearing machines. Critical turbomachinery usually carries two X-Y probes per bearing, two axial probes for thrust position and a Keyphasor probe for speed and phase.
Where Bently Nevada systems are used
In Oman and the GCC, Bently Nevada racks and probes protect gas turbines, compressors and steam turbines in gas processing, LNG, refining, petrochemical, power and desalination plants. Many installations are 3500 racks that have run for years, so most requests are for like-for-like module, probe, extension cable and proximitor replacements, plus upgrades to newer monitors.
Ordering and replacement: what we need
For probes and proximitors, send the full part number with all option digits (for example 330101-00-27-10-02-05). The digits set the probe length, cable length, connector and approvals, and the probe, cable and proximitor must match in total system length. For 3500 modules, send the module and I/O part numbers from the rack and say whether the I/O is internal or external termination, or barrier type. If a module is obsolete, we quote the replacement that Bently Nevada names and point out any configuration or firmware change.
Facts checked against Baker Hughes Bently Nevada pages and published company history, October 2026.
