TP-Link SG2428P Omada 24-Port PoE+ Gigabit Switch
Description
A 28-port Omada switch with a 250 W PoE budget
The SG2428P is an Omada Access switch from TP-Link with 24 gigabit RJ45 ports that deliver 802.3af/at PoE+ and four gigabit SFP slots. A 250 W PoE budget and up to 30 W per port make it a typical floor switch for IP cameras, ceiling access points and VoIP phones.
It runs standalone through web, CLI, SNMP and RMON management, or centrally through Omada: hardware or software controllers, or Omada Central in the cloud, with zero-touch provisioning where supported. The metal casing is rack-mountable, 440 x 220 x 44 mm, and the datasheet gives 56 Gbps switching capacity and 41.66 Mpps forwarding.

Reading the numbers: 24 gigabit ports plus 4 SFP slots give 28 Gbps per direction, or 56 Gbps counted both ways (derived), which matches the 56 Gbps switching capacity, so the fabric is non-blocking. The PoE budget is the tighter limit: 250 W divided across 24 ports is about 10.4 W per port on average (derived), so a full complement of 15.4 W access points would exceed it, while phones and cameras of 4 to 8 W fit easily. Maximum draw of 289.8 W at 220 V with the full PoE load, against 9.5 W on standby, shows how much of the energy bill is PoE.
PoE, switching and management features
- 24 PoE+ ports (802.3af/at, up to 30 W each) from a shared 250 W budget, with Perpetual PoE, Fast PoE and PoE Extend mode.
- Layer 2 and light Layer 3: 802.1Q VLANs (up to 4K groups), 32 IPv4/IPv6 interfaces and static routes, DHCP server, relay and Layer 2 relay.
- Security: 802.1X, MAB, DHCP snooping, dynamic ARP inspection, IP source guard, port security up to 64 MAC addresses per port, HTTPS and SSH management.
- QoS with 8 priority queues, storm control and bandwidth control; IGMP and MLD snooping.
- Dual image and dual configuration, DDM on SFP modules, cable diagnostics, packet capture and IPv6 support.
Selecting and ordering the SG2428P
The order code is SG2428P (the datasheet covers hardware version 5.40, UN variant). The package contains the switch, power cord, rack-mount kit, rubber feet and installation guide. Gigabit SFP options in the datasheet include single-mode 20 km, multi-mode 550 m and WDM bi-directional types, none of which are in the package. When planning a quotation, add up the real PoE draw of every device, since 250 W is shared across all 24 ports; if the load is higher, a model with a larger budget is needed.
Powering, cooling and operating notes
The datasheet specifies an operating temperature of -5 to 50 degrees C and 10-90% non-condensing humidity, which restricts it to a conditioned room or ventilated cabinet. Two fans run, but below a 150 W PoE load at 25 degrees C the switch stays fanless; at 100% load and 50 degrees C noise rises to 32.5 dBA at 1 m. Power input is 100-240 V AC at 50/60 Hz, and maximum draw with the full 250 W PD load is about 290-300 W. Decide early whether to manage the switch standalone or adopt it into an Omada controller.
Camera, Wi-Fi and phone deployments
Use it to feed camera and access point clusters in offices, schools, clinics and warehouses, with the four SFP slots as fibre uplinks to a core switch. In hot-climate buildings keep the cabinet within the 50 degrees C operating limit; this is a general placement point drawn from the specified range.
Information to send with an RFQ for the TP-Link SG2428P Omada 24-Port PoE+ Gigabit Switch
Switch selection depends on how many devices connect, how they are powered and how the switch links back to the core. For the TP-Link SG2428P Omada 24-Port PoE+ Gigabit Switch, list the number of copper and fibre ports you need, the PoE devices it will feed (cameras, access points, phones) and their individual power class, so the total PoE budget can be checked against the switch’s limit.
- Uplink speed and media: 1G, 2.5G or 10G, copper or SFP/SFP+, and the optic modules required.
- Management needs: VLANs, link aggregation, IGMP snooping, or central management from a controller.
- Rack space, airflow direction and power redundancy in the cabinet.
- Ambient temperature in the room or field cabinet, which matters in GCC summers.
A simple port map of the site is enough for the configuration to be checked before the order is confirmed.
