Sauter AKM115F120 8 Nm 230 V Rotary Actuator for Ball Valves

The AKM115F120 is the 8 Nm, 230 V~ member of the Sauter AKM rotary actuator family. It turns the spindle of a 2- or 3-way ball valve through 90 degrees in 120 seconds on a switching (2-point or 3-point) signal, which makes it the simplest way to motorise Sauter VKR and BKR ball valves up to DN 50 on heating, chilled-water and fan-coil branches.

Motorising a ball valve without a toolbox

The AKM is designed for ball valves in building services rather than for process isolation. It clips onto the valve with a bayonet ring made of glass-fibre-reinforced plastic, so the datasheet states that it is fitted to ball valves up to DN 50 without tools, and the coupling between valve spindle and carrier stem forms automatically. The actuator is shipped in the middle position. The AKM115 is the stronger of the two sizes: 8 Nm against 4 Nm for the AKM105, for the larger valve sizes in the range.

Selection and ordering guide

The five AKM types differ in torque, running time and voltage. Pick the 8 Nm size when the ball valve is a larger DN or has a stiff seat, and match the supply voltage to the controller output.

Only the F100 type has the short 30 second running time; it is the only one whose positioning signal is cut off after 60 seconds, the other types after 3 minutes.

Operation and installation notes

• For 3-point control the stem turns anti-clockwise with voltage on the brown cable (valve opens) and clockwise with voltage on the black cable (valve closes); reversing direction means swapping the connections.
• For 2-point control the black cable always carries voltage; the valve opens when the brown cable is energised and closes when it is de-energised.
• At the end stops or on overload a magnetic coupling takes over and an electronic cut-out switches the signal off, so no limit switches are needed.
• Manual positioning: release the gear unit with the slide switch beside the cable, turn with the lever, then put the switch back to engage the gear unit.
• Keep condensate and dripping water from running down the carrier stem into the actuator; the housing must not be opened.
• Several AKM actuators can be wired in parallel only with accessory 0372459100 (230 V version), which suits an AKM115F120 group.
