Hydraulic calibration to 15,000 psi without a hand pump

The Additel ADT762 is a fully automated hydraulic calibrator. You set a pressure from the 7 inch touchscreen and the built-in electric pump, controller and reservoir bring the system to the set point and hold it to 0.005% FS control stability, from 100 to 15,000 psi for more than five minutes. It targets the high-pressure work that normally needs a screw press, a reference gauge and a lot of patience: transmitters, switches, dial and digital gauges and sensors, including HART and PROFIBUS devices.

Because the pump, filter, reservoir, documentation and HART tools are all inside one 12.8 kg case, one technician can run an automated test on a pressure transmitter, save the as-found and as-left data and print a report afterwards.

Ordering the correct variant

The code is ADT762-01-GP15K-PSI-N. The accuracy field is 01 (0.01% FS) or 02 (0.02% FS), the range is GP10K or GP15K, the range type is PSI or BAR and the female pressure port is N (1/4 NPT), N2 (1/2 NPT), B (1/4 BSP), B2 (1/2 BSP) or M (M20 x 1.5). Choose GP10K if nothing above 10,000 psi is tested, because its two calibrations (3,000 and 10,000 psi) give better low-end accuracy than the 6,000 / 15,000 psi pair. Large external volumes degrade performance, so keep the connected load at the recommended 50 ml or less.

Setup, purging and care

The manual fills the reservoir through a removable cover: fill the working medium between the Min and Max marks, refit the cover and select the In Use position. Refilling through the injection port with the small metal funnel can only be done before power-on or after shutdown, and the level must not exceed the Max mark. Seal the pressure outlet before running auto-tune. A 500 ml bottle of sebacate oil is included and a one litre bottle 9201 is optional; run the built-in auto-purge routine to remove air. Hoses and filters should be replaced after about 10 years or at the first sign of wear.

High-pressure calibration is needed for wellhead and pipeline transmitters, hydraulic test benches, valve actuator testing, subsea and drilling instrumentation. A portable hydraulic calibrator saves the trip to a central lab: the unit can be taken to a compressor station or workshop and run as a stand-alone reference with NIST-traceable data.

Selection and installation notes

Calibration equipment should be set up before it is relied on. Check the range and connections against the devices you will test, allow the instrument to warm up and stabilise, keep the fittings and tubing clean and use the correct adapters and seals. Keep the calibration certificate on file, plan the re-calibration interval according to your quality system, charge and store the battery as the manual describes and protect the case from impact when it is carried to site.

Hydraulic systems need a suitable clean fluid and careful venting, so check that the test fluid is compatible with the devices under test and with the wetted parts of the calibrator.
