Donaldson Ultrasep US 4.5i-60i Oil-Water Separator

An oil-water separator for compressor condensate, in five sizes

The Donaldson Ultrasep US separates mineral and synthetic oil from compressed air condensate, even when the oil is emulsified, so that the water can be discharged after treatment. The range has five sizes for nominal compressor capacities of up to 60 m3/min, and the capacity can be extended by running several separators in parallel with the optional Ultrasep flow-distribution kit.

Condensate lines enter a depressurizing chamber with an activated carbon foam exhaust filter. A polypropylene oil separation filter with hydrophobic and oleophilic treatment takes the oil in the first stage, a second safety stage protects the activated carbon polishing filter, and the clean water leaves with a target oil content of 5 mg/l (ppm).

Service and monitoring

A filter life indicator moves down as the polypropylene fibre saturates with oil, and an overflow indicator warns of an application problem or over-saturated filters. A test valve and sample bottle let the operator check the residual oil in ppm. The Carepac service kit contains replacement filters for all stages and personal protective equipment for the service operator.

The separator works with timer-controlled and electronic level-controlled drains. Pick the size from the compressor capacity, and use the flow-distribution option where the condensate flow is higher than one unit handles. The sheet also offers a fixing bracket for wall mounting of the 4.5 model.

Donaldson names the Industrial Gases, automotive, food processing and industrial machinery sectors for this range. Compact polyethylene housings with brass pipe connections keep the footprint small and resist corrosion, and the installation and filter change are described as simple, fast and clean. Condensate disposal rules differ by country, so confirm the permitted oil content for discharge before you decide whether the 5 ppm target is sufficient.
