Sensus WPV-MS 150 Compound Water Meter DN 150

Description

The Sensus WPV-MS 150 is a DN 150 compound water meter for cold water, with a main meter for high flows and a by-pass meter for very low flows. It has MID pattern approval, needs no straight pipe upstream or downstream because of its integrated flow straightener, and uses a spring-loaded change-over valve with low head loss and extended lifetime. The sheet describes it as ideal for fire service pipes, and for installations with an extremely wide spread of flow rates.

Main meter and by-pass meter

The main meter is cast iron with a plastic measuring element and rotor, while the by-pass meter is specified as a rotary piston meter, type RK-MS HRI, in a brass body with a copper and glass register in protection class IP68. At low flow all water passes through the by-pass, and as flow rises past the change-over flow (8.3 m3/h increasing, 4.7 m3/h decreasing under the MID pattern approval) the valve opens to the main meter. This gives a minimum flow Q1 of 0.1 m3/h under MID and, by the manufacturer’s values, 0.035 m3/h, which makes it suitable for measuring small flows for leakage detection while still passing high flows. Both meters can be fitted with HRI-Mei or OD pulse interfaces, or an ER56 encoder register.

Selection and installation

Check the two performance tables carefully: the MID values (Q3 250 m3/h) are the legally approved ones, while the manufacturer values (continuous flow 400 m3/h and peak flow Qs 600 m3/h) describe the hydraulic capacity. The meter must be installed horizontally and the standard overall length is 500 mm, with a version with a spool piece of about 1000 mm for fitting in a line where a longer length is needed. Weight is 60 kg for the meter and 32 kg for the spool piece, so lifting equipment is likely to be required. Materials are resistant up to 50 degC, the temperature class is T30, and the meter can be submerged. Confirm the flange drilling, pulse values and approvals required by the supply authority.
