PCB Piezotronics 608A11 Industrial ICP Accelerometer 100 mV/g

Description

A low-cost general purpose accelerometer with a molded cable

The PCB Piezotronics 608A11 is a general purpose industrial ICP accelerometer with a ceramic shear sensing element, a stainless steel housing and a 10 ft integral polyurethane cable that leaves the top of the sensor. Its sensitivity is 100 mV/g over 0.5 to 10,000 Hz, the usual range for route-based and continuous monitoring of pumps, fans, motors and gearboxes.

The manufacturer lists it under its stock program with single point ISO 17025 accredited calibration. Because the cable is molded in, there is no connector to loosen, and the sensor is rated IP68 for wet or dirty plant areas. As an ICP (IEPE) sensor it needs only a constant current supply of 2 to 20 mA at 18 to 28 VDC.

Options, mounting and functional safety

The spec sheet lists optional versions with prefixes: EX for hazardous area approval (contact the factory), LB for low bias voltage, M for metric mounting (stud M081A61 replaces 081A40) and TO for temperature output. The manual stresses that mounting decides the upper frequency response: a flat, smooth surface with the stud torqued to the specified value gives the best result, while adhesive or magnetic mounts reduce the usable high frequency range.

The manual also contains a PCB declaration of conformity for functional safety to IEC 61508 for a group of series that includes the 608 series, listing SIL 2, device type B, hardware fault tolerance 0 and a safe failure fraction of 79.59 percent. Check with us whether that declaration applies to your exact part number before relying on it in a safety loop.

What to confirm before ordering

Model suffixes matter at PCB, so send the complete part number with any option prefix, the cable length, the machine type and the monitoring system input. For a ruggedised alternative with a sealed connector, see the PCB Piezotronics 603C01.

About brand

PCB Piezotronics, founded in 1967 in Depew, USA, makes sensors for dynamic measurement: accelerometers, pressure and force sensors and measurement microphones, most of them using the company's ICP built-in electronics. Test laboratories and machinery engineers know them as PCB sensors. Seven Star LLC sources and supplies PCB Piezotronics accelerometers and acoustic sensors for customers in Oman, including the models described below.

PCB sensors listed here

Model 356A01 is a miniature triaxial ICP accelerometer with a ceramic shear element and titanium housing. PCB gives it a nominal sensitivity of 5 mV/g, a range of 1000 g peak and a weight of about one gram; it is adhesive mounted and has an integral four-conductor cable. Model 378B02 is a 1/2-inch prepolarized free-field microphone supplied with a mated ICP preamplifier and TEDS, at 50 mV/Pa.

Ordering PCB sensors: what we need

Send the exact model number, including any prefix letters. PCB puts option codes in front of the base model, so a high-temperature or metric version carries a different prefix. Add the cable length and connector, and the signal conditioner or analyzer input you are using. For GCC test laboratories we can request the manufacturer's calibration certificate with the sensor.
