SICK Lector632 V2D632R-MWMFB4 Image-Based Code Reader

Description

The SICK Lector632 (type V2D632R-MWMFB4) is an image-based code reader that reads 1D and 2D codes on parts, labels and packages moving on conveyors or sitting in a fixture. A 1.9 megapixel CMOS sensor, a 25 mm C-mount lens and integrated white LED lighting capture the code and the on-board decoder returns the content over Ethernet or a fieldbus.

It is aimed at traceability tasks such as Data Matrix marking on components, GS1 labels on cartons and mixed code types on one line. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, quotes the exact SICK type code and part number from the official data sheet.

Codes and performance

The data sheet lists the common linear types (Code 128, Code 39, Code 93, Interleaved 2 of 5, Codabar, GS1-128, EAN/UPC, GS1 DataBar, Pharmacode and several postal codes) plus Data Matrix ECC200, GS1 Data Matrix, QR code, MaxiCode and PDF417. Code quality is assessed on the basis of ISO/IEC 16022, ISO/IEC 15415 and ISO/IEC 18004. A scanning frequency of up to 50 Hz and an encoder input of up to 1 kHz support moving lines.

Integration and configuration

The device has an M12 17-pin connector for serial, CAN, I/O and power, a gigabit Ethernet socket, an M8 USB socket and an external illumination connector. It is configured with the SICK SOPAS ET software and also offers a web server. Feedback LEDs, a green or red feedback spot and a red laser alignment aid help during set-up. Optional CDF600-2 and CDB650 modules extend fieldbus and I/O options as noted in the data sheet.

Selection and what to confirm

Typical uses are part marking checks, carton and pallet label reading and quality traceability, where a line scanner cannot read 2D codes. The lens, the distance and the code size must be matched, and the data sheet field of view diagram is the reference. Working distance, field of view and code size set the lens choice, so check the field of view diagram in the data sheet against your application. Please confirm before ordering: code types and size, distance, line speed, network protocol, connection modules and cables.

How the SICK Lector632 V2D632R-MWMFB4 works

The reader lights the code with its white LED and takes an image with the CMOS sensor. The decoder finds the code in the image and reads it. The result goes to the control system over Ethernet or a fieldbus. Moving parts are read at up to 50 images per second.

About brand

Machine builders have relied on SICK since 1946 for the sensors that tell a controller where a part, a pallet or a person is. The company, based in Waldkirch, Germany, makes photoelectric, inductive and magnetic sensors, distance sensors and safety devices. Seven Star LLC supplies SICK sensors to maintenance teams and integrators in Oman, mostly as exact replacements identified by type code and part number.

SICK sensor families on this page

Five of the SICK families listed here are described below. The W4 miniature photoelectric sensors include the WTB4-3, a proximity sensor with background suppression. IME is the standard inductive proximity line, and the IME18 is the M18 housing size. RZT7 cylinder sensors fit T-slot pneumatic cylinders and detect the piston magnet. The DT35 belongs to the Dx35 laser distance sensors for mid-range measurement. The microScan3 is a safety laser scanner that guards hazardous zones around machines and vehicles.

Where SICK sensors are used

SICK sensors are fitted on packaging and bottling lines, conveyors, palletizers, warehouse cranes and automated guided vehicles. Safety laser scanners protect robot cells and transfer cars. In process plants, the same proximity and cylinder sensors report valve and damper positions on packaged equipment.

Ordering SICK sensors: what we need

A SICK type code such as IME18-08NPSZW2K packs the whole specification into one string: housing size, sensing range, flush or non-flush mounting, output type and connection. Each variant also has a 7-digit part number, and that number is the safest identifier. Please send:

  • Type code and part number from the sensor label, or a photo of it
  • Output type (PNP or NPN, normally open or closed) and connection (cable length or M8/M12 plug)
  • For microScan3: variant (Core or Pro), interface, protective field range, plus system plug and bracket

We check the code in SICK's documentation and tell you if the manufacturer lists a successor.
