A fully encapsulated 12 V, 102 W supply with IP67 protection

The Mean Well LPV-100-12 is a 102 W single-output constant voltage power supply in a fully encapsulated plastic case with IP67 protection. It provides 12 V DC at up to 8.5 A and is aimed at decorative and advertising displays, LED strips and general-purpose electronics operated in dusty or damp places. The datasheet states that it is suitable for indoor use or for outdoor use without direct sunlight exposure.

The input is a universal 90 to 264 Vac (127 to 370 Vdc), efficiency is 85% typical for the 12 V model, and cooling is by free air convection, so there is no fan to fail. The series covers 5, 12, 15, 24, 36 and 48 V, and the unit withstands a 300 Vac surge on the input for 5 seconds.

Where the LPV-100 fits and where it does not

The LPV-100 is a low-cost, fully potted supply for signs, channel letters, LED strips, lighting displays, access control power and similar low-voltage loads that need a sealed housing. The output leads and the input leads are fixed to the case, with the input lead 300 mm long and the output wires 14 AWG, so the unit is wired by splice or terminal block rather than screw terminals on the supply itself.

The datasheet carries a clear note that the product is not intended for LED lighting luminaire applications in the EU and China, where the LPF, NPF, XLG, XLC and XLN series are recommended. For outdoor use, keep it out of direct sunlight, mount it in the recommended direction and follow the water-proof installation cautions in the Mean Well LED user manual referenced by the datasheet.

Approvals and what to check before ordering

The datasheet lists UL 8750, CSA C22.2 No. 250.13-12, UL 879, CSA C22.2 No. 207-M89, BIS IS 15885, EAC TP TC 004, IP67 and IEC/EN 62368-1 approvals, with EMC emission to EN 55032 Class B and harmonic current Class A at 80% load or less. A note adds that products sourced from the Americas may not carry the TUV, BIS or CCC logos. Mean Well treats its power supplies and drivers as components to be installed in final equipment, so the EMC and safety results quoted in the datasheet must be re-confirmed in the finished installation. Check the derating curve if the supply is used near the +70 C limit or on a low input voltage.
