Phoenix Contact MINI MCR-2-UI-UI 3-Way Signal Conditioner (2902037)

Description

Overview

The Phoenix Contact MINI MCR-2-UI-UI (item number 2902037) is a 3-way isolating signal conditioner from the MINI Analog Pro family. In a housing only 6.2 mm wide, the Phoenix Contact MINI MCR-2-UI-UI electrically isolates, converts, amplifies and filters unipolar and bipolar analog standard signals. Input and output ranges are selected with DIP switches, and the measuring ranges are calibrated, so no adjustment is needed after a range changeover. The device supports fault monitoring and NFC communication, and it carries ATEX and IECEx approvals for installation in Zone 2 as well as UL Class I, Division 2 approval.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Phoenix Contact MINI MCR-2-UI-UI to instrumentation contractors, system integrators and plant maintenance teams in the Sultanate of Oman and across the GCC, from our office in Muscat for analog signal interfacing in control and safety systems.

Why Signal Isolation Matters

As general engineering background, analog loops between field instruments and control systems often suffer from ground loops, potential differences between plant areas, electrical noise and incompatible signal ranges. A 3-way isolator separates input, output and power supply galvanically, breaking ground loops and protecting expensive I/O cards from transients. The Phoenix Contact MINI MCR-2-UI-UI provides reinforced insulation between input, output and supply according to IEC/EN 61010-1, with a rated insulation voltage of 300 Vrms and a test voltage of 3 kV AC for 60 seconds.

Beyond isolation, the Phoenix Contact MINI MCR-2-UI-UI converts between signal types. A 0 to 10 V output from a drive, for example, can be converted into a 4 to 20 mA signal for a DCS input, or a bipolar ±10 V position signal can be shifted into a unipolar range. The maximum transmission error of the Phoenix Contact MINI MCR-2-UI-UI is 0.1 % of the configured output range, with a typical temperature coefficient of 0.01 %/K.

Configurable Input and Output Ranges

According to the Phoenix Contact data sheet, the voltage input of the Phoenix Contact MINI MCR-2-UI-UI can be set via DIP switch to 0 to 5 V, 1 to 5 V, −5 to 5 V, 0 to 10 V, 2 to 10 V, −10 to 10 V, 0 to 20 V, 4 to 20 V, −20 to 20 V, 0 to 24 V, 4.8 to 24 V, −24 to 24 V, 0 to 30 V, 6 to 30 V or −30 to 30 V. Current inputs of 0 to 20 mA, 4 to 20 mA and −20 to 20 mA are also available. The voltage input resistance is above 1000 kΩ, and the current input resistance is approximately 63 Ω.

On the output side, the Phoenix Contact MINI MCR-2-UI-UI offers 0 to 5 V, 1 to 5 V, −5 to 5 V, 0 to 10 V, 2 to 10 V and −10 to 10 V voltage ranges, and 0 to 20 mA or 4 to 20 mA current ranges. The current output drives loads up to 600 Ω at 20 mA, and the voltage output needs a load of at least 10 kΩ. A low-pass filter in the Phoenix Contact MINI MCR-2-UI-UI with a limit frequency of 30 Hz or 5 kHz is selected by DIP switch; with the 30 Hz filter, the step response from 10 to 90 % is below 12 ms.

Power Supply and Mounting

The Phoenix Contact MINI MCR-2-UI-UI is powered from a nominal 24 V DC supply within a range of 9.6 to 30 V DC. Supply can be bridged between adjacent modules with the DIN rail connector ME 6,2 TBUS-2 1,5/5-ST-3,81 GN (item 2869728), which snaps onto a 35 mm DIN rail to EN 60715 and removes the need for individual supply wiring. Typical current consumption is 25 mA at 24 V DC with current output. Screw connection terminals on the Phoenix Contact MINI MCR-2-UI-UI accept conductors from 0.14 to 2.5 mm², and a green LED indicates the presence of supply voltage.

Applications in Oman and the GCC

In oil and gas production stations, refineries, power and desalination plants across Oman and the GCC, the Phoenix Contact MINI MCR-2-UI-UI is used to isolate and convert analog signals between field transmitters, variable speed drives, analyzers and PLC or DCS cards. Typical tasks include splitting ground potentials between a motor control centre and a control room, adapting a 0 to 10 V speed reference to a 4 to 20 mA input, and filtering noisy signals before they reach an I/O card. The Zone 2 approvals listed in the data sheet allow installation in suitable enclosures in Zone 2 hazardous areas, within the certificate conditions.

Seven Star LLC also supplies related interface products such as the PR electronics 4116 universal transmitter, the Moore Industries SIX signal isolator, converter and repeater and the Phoenix Contact TTC-6-2X1-24DC-UT surge protector for protecting the same analog loops against surges.

Ordering Phoenix Contact components: what we need

Phoenix Contact items are ordered by a seven-digit order number together with the type designation, both printed on the side of the module. Send both, plus the quantity. If the number is unreadable, send the type text and a photo. For power supplies, state input voltage, output current and whether the unit runs in parallel or with a redundancy module. For buyers in the GCC replacing an older unit, we check the manufacturer's documentation for the listed successor type.
