ASCO 8210G002 Brass Solenoid Valve 1/2 in NPT Normally Closed
Overview
The ASCO 8210G002 is one of the most frequently specified catalog numbers in the ASCO Series 210 range: a 2-way, normally closed, pilot-operated brass solenoid valve with 1/2 inch NPT ports and a 5/8 inch orifice. It is rated for three media groups in one body – air and inert gas, water, and light oil at 300 SSU – and it carries the UL safety shutoff valve listing in the Series 210 table. Its low-power 6.1 W AC coil and broad media rating explain why the ASCO 8210G002 turns up on compressors, pump skids, washing equipment, cooling water lines and burner trains alike.
Seven Star LLC supplies the ASCO 8210G002 to maintenance departments, panel builders and OEM service teams in Oman and the GCC, with engineering support in Muscat. Because the same valve is fitted to so many machines, plants in Muscat, Sohar and Salalah tend to keep it as a standard spare, and our team helps confirm voltage, prefix and suffix codes before dispatch so that a replacement drops straight into the existing pipework.
Operating Principle
Like other pilot-operated members of the family, the ASCO 8210G002 uses a diaphragm (construction reference 6D) that separates the inlet from the main orifice. In the de-energized state, a small pilot port in the bonnet is closed by the solenoid core, inlet pressure bleeds above the diaphragm and holds it firmly on its seat. Energizing the coil lifts the core, the space above the diaphragm vents downstream faster than it can refill, and the resulting pressure imbalance lifts the diaphragm to open the 5/8 inch main orifice with a flow factor of Cv 4 (Kv 3.4).
This servo action lets a small coil control a comparatively large flow, but it also sets the lower limit of the operating window: the ASCO 8210G002 needs at least 5 psi (0.3 bar) across the valve. Upper limits depend on both the medium and the coil type. On AC the valve handles 200 psi air or inert gas, 150 psi water and 135 psi light oil; on DC the limits are 125 psi air, 100 psi water and 100 psi light oil. Selecting the correct coil type for the expected differential is therefore the first engineering check when this valve is specified.
Engineering Design of the ASCO 8210G002
The body and bonnet of the ASCO 8210G002 are brass, and the catalog marks this model with the S suffix option: a lead-free brass body and bonnet can be ordered with the suffix LF, compliant with the Safe Drinking Water Act Section 1417 and NSF/ANSI 372 low lead requirements. Wetted internals include NBR or PTFE seals and discs, a PA disc holder, a 305 stainless steel core tube, a 430F stainless steel core and plugnut and 302 stainless steel springs, with a copper shading coil on AC versions.
The standard coil is 6.1 W class F on AC (8.1 W on 50 Hz service, per catalog note 7) and 11.6 W class F on DC. The 6.1 W AC solenoid draws 16 VA holding and 40 VA inrush. Maximum fluid temperature is 180 °F (82 °C) on AC and 150 °F (65 °C) on DC. The standard enclosure is RedHat II watertight, Types 1, 2, 3, 3S, 4 and 4X, and an ATEX/IECEx certified solenoid is available for DC versions only using the prefix EV. Where an explosionproof and watertight RedHat II enclosure is required, the catalog instructs adding the prefix EF to the catalog number.
Key Features
The ASCO 8210G002 offers a balanced set of ratings for general utility service:
- One valve rated for air and inert gas, water and light oil, which simplifies spare-part stocking across different systems.
- Normally closed pilot-operated diaphragm design with a 5/8 inch orifice and Cv 4 in a 1/2 inch NPT body.
- Low-power 6.1 W AC coil with 16 VA holding demand, suitable for PLC output cards and small control transformers.
- UL listed as a safety shutoff valve and CSA certified, with RedHat II meeting applicable CE directives.
- Lead-free brass body and bonnet option (suffix LF) for potable water lines requiring SDWA 1417 and NSF/ANSI 372 compliance.
- ATEX/IECEx certified solenoid available on DC versions with the EV prefix for classified areas.
- Stainless steel core tube, core, plugnut and springs for long life and low internal leakage.
- Mounting in any position, giving freedom when retrofitting into crowded skids.
Industrial Applications
Across Oman, the ASCO 8210G002 appears in instrument air drain and blow-off lines on compressor packages, in make-up water and cooling water lines on chillers and cooling towers, and in lube oil and light fuel oil lines on generator sets and pump skids. Commercial laundries, car wash systems and hotel plant rooms in Muscat use the same valve for general water service, while water treatment and RO plants in the Sohar and Duqm areas specify the lead-free LF version where treated water is handled.
Because its ratings differ between AC and DC coils, the ASCO 8210G002 is a valve where getting the coil right matters, and Seven Star LLC helps buyers check the duty against the catalog table before ordering. Customers who need a larger port or a stainless body can compare it with the wider ASCO 8210 series range, while low-flow pilot duties are often covered by the ASCO 327 series solenoid valve; where a direct-acting plunger design is preferred, the Bürkert Type 6026 2/2-way solenoid valve is a common alternative we also supply.

ASCO solenoid valve series listed here
Three series are listed. The ASCO 8210 series is a two-way, pilot-operated general service valve for air, water and light oil. The ASCO 327 series is a direct-operated three-way valve widely used to pilot the actuators of process valves, including shutdown valves. The ASCO 551 series is a pilot-operated spool valve with a NAMUR interface that mounts directly on quarter-turn pneumatic actuators.Ordering ASCO valves: what we need
Send the complete catalog number from the nameplate, including prefix and suffix letters, since these define the solenoid enclosure, coil and seal options. Add the coil voltage and frequency, pipe size and thread, body material, the fluid, the minimum and maximum operating pressure differential, and whether the valve is normally closed, normally open or universal. For hazardous areas, state the protection type required. Buyers in the GCC often add ambient temperature, which affects coil selection.Browse ASCO products by category: Solenoid Valve.
