Bently Nevada 3500/62 Process Variable Monitor

Description

Overview

The Bently Nevada 3500/62 Process Variable Monitor is a six-channel module for the Bently Nevada 3500 machinery protection rack that brings machine-critical process parameters into the same protection system that already watches vibration and position. Pressures, flows, temperatures and levels that deserve continuous supervision are wired into the Bently Nevada 3500/62 as 4 to 20 mA current loops or as any proportional voltage between −10 Vdc and +10 Vdc. The module conditions each signal, compares it with user-programmed alarm setpoints, and drives alarms that both operators and maintenance staff can act on.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Bently Nevada 3500/62 and its I/O modules on request to rotating equipment owners in the Sultanate of Oman and across the GCC, with engineering support in Muscat. The Bently Nevada 3500/62 datasheet (document 141541, Rev. R) is attached to this page, and our team can help match the I/O type, agency approval option and external termination hardware to an existing rack before an order is placed.

Operating Principle

Each of the six channels of the Bently Nevada 3500/62 is programmed in the 3500 Rack Configuration Software for either current or voltage measurement, and the full-scale range of each channel is set in the same software, so no field calibration is required. The monitor scales the incoming signal into engineering units, and the resulting proportional value can be returned as current or voltage in a variety of configurable units. Accuracy on the ±10 Vdc I/O is within ±0.33% of full scale, while the barrier 4 to 20 mA I/O is specified at ±1% maximum. A minimum span of 2 V applies to voltage inputs.

Alarm logic is built around Alert and Danger setpoints that can normally be set anywhere from 0 to 100% of full scale, with both under and over setpoints available for every measured value, so a low suction pressure and a high discharge temperature can be protected by the same module. Alarm accuracy is within 0.13% of the desired value. Alert time delays are adjustable from 1 to 60 seconds in 1-second steps, and Danger delays from 1 to 60 seconds in 0.5-second steps, which lets engineers filter short process transients without masking a genuine upset.

Engineering Design of the Bently Nevada 3500/62

The Bently Nevada 3500/62 occupies one full-height front slot of the 3500 rack and pairs with one full-height rear I/O module. Three signal input scenarios are covered by the I/O range: ±10 Vdc, isolated 4 to 20 mA with 500 V isolation, and non-isolated 4 to 20 mA with intrinsically safe zener barriers. The internal barrier I/O provides external power input terminals so that intrinsically safe +24 Vdc power (±5%, 250 mA maximum, fused) can be delivered to the 4 to 20 mA transmitters in the field. Input impedance is 1 MΩ on the voltage I/O and 50 Ω on both current I/O types.

The front panel carries three LEDs: OK shows the module is operating properly, TX/RX shows it is communicating with the other modules in the rack, and Bypass shows the channel is in bypass mode. The monitor module measures 241.3 × 24.4 × 241.8 mm and weighs 0.82 kg, while the I/O modules are 99.1 mm deep and weigh 0.20 kg, or 0.46 kg with barriers. Typical power consumption is 7.0 W. When I/O modules with external terminations are chosen, the external termination blocks and cables are ordered separately; they cannot be combined with internal-termination I/O.

Key Features

The main capabilities of the Bently Nevada 3500/62 listed in the manufacturer datasheet are:

  • Six independent channels for pressure, flow, temperature, level or any other proportional process signal.
  • Inputs of 4 to 20 mA current or −10 to +10 Vdc voltage, selected per channel in the rack configuration software.
  • Alert and Danger setpoints with both under and over alarms, adjustable across 0 to 100% of full scale.
  • Software-adjustable alarm delays of 1 to 60 seconds, in 1-second steps for Alert and 0.5-second steps for Danger.
  • Isolated 4 to 20 mA I/O with 500 V isolation for loops that share a common ground with other systems.
  • Internal barrier I/O that supplies intrinsically safe transmitter power, with hazardous area ratings when installed per drawing 138547.
  • Front-panel OK, TX/RX and Bypass LEDs for quick status checks from the rack face.
  • Marine classification to DNV GL and ABS rules, plus EMC, low-voltage and RoHS compliance.

Industrial Applications

A process variable channel is often the missing piece on a compressor or turbine package: lube oil header pressure, seal gas differential pressure, bearing oil drain temperature or a separator level are frequently trended in the DCS but not alarmed in the protection rack. Installing the Bently Nevada 3500/62 next to existing modules such as the Bently Nevada 3500/42M Proximitor Seismic Monitor or the 3500/60 Temperature Monitor lets these values share the rack’s alarm handling, relay logic and data path. Gas compression stations, water injection pump trains, gas turbine generator sets and refinery process compressors in Oman are typical candidates.

For new projects in Duqm, Sohar or Salalah, the Bently Nevada 3500/62 gives the EPC engineer a way to keep a limited number of trip-critical process signals inside the same certified enclosure as the vibration channels, rather than adding a separate alarm unit. Alarms can be driven to relay cards such as the Bently Nevada 3500/32M 4-Channel Relay Module. Seven Star LLC can review existing rack layouts, slot availability and firmware levels with plant teams in Oman and the GCC so that the Bently Nevada 3500/62 is commissioned without surprises.

The manufacturer's newer platform, Orbit 60, is offered as the modernization path for 3500 racks, and System 1 software handles diagnostics.

Where Bently Nevada vibration monitoring is used

Steam and gas turbines, generators, centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, large pumps, hydro units and cooling tower fans in oil and gas, power generation, petrochemical and mining plants are the usual machines. Measurements include radial vibration, thrust position, speed, phase, differential expansion, bearing temperature, rod position and cylinder pressure.

Ordering Bently Nevada parts: what we need

Send the complete part number with every option field, for example 330103-00-05-10-01-00 for a probe or the 3500 module number with its option dashes, plus the matching I/O module number. For probe systems state probe series, system length and the hazardous area approval. A photo of the label avoids transcription errors, and for rack modules the firmware revision is useful.

Frequently Asked Questions

What signals can the Bently Nevada 3500/62 monitor?
The 3500/62 accepts six channels of 4 to 20 mA current or proportional voltage from -10 Vdc to +10 Vdc. It is intended for machine-critical process values such as pressure, flow, temperature and level, which it compares with programmable Alert and Danger setpoints.
Which I/O module should I order with the 3500/62?
The choice depends on the field signal. Option 01 or 02 is for voltage inputs, 03 or 04 for isolated 4 to 20 mA loops, and 05 for non-isolated 4 to 20 mA loops that need intrinsically safe zener barriers. Options 02 and 04 use external terminations, so the termination block and cable are ordered separately.
Does the 3500/62 need field calibration?
No. The full-scale range of each channel is set in the 3500 Rack Configuration Software and the datasheet states that no calibration is required. Accuracy is within 0.33% of full scale on the voltage I/O and 1% maximum on the barrier 4 to 20 mA I/O.
Can the 3500/62 be added to an older 3500 rack?
Yes, provided the rack meets the minimum versions given in the datasheet: 3500/20 firmware 1.07 (Rev G) and 3500/01 software version 2.20 or later. The internal barrier I/O needs 3500/62 firmware 1.06 (Rev C) and 3500/01 version 2.30. TMR units are no longer available for purchase.
Where can I buy the Bently Nevada 3500/62 in Oman?
Seven Star LLC supplies the Bently Nevada 3500/62 and its I/O modules to customers in Oman and the GCC, with engineering support in Muscat. Send the full part number or your signal and approval requirements with the RFQ.
