Bently Nevada 330104-10-19-10-02-00 3300 XL 8 mm Armored Probe

Description

Bently Nevada 330104-10-19-10-02-00: armored 3300 XL 8 mm probe, M10 x 1 thread

The Bently Nevada 330104-10-19-10-02-00 is a 3300 XL 8 mm eddy-current proximity probe in the 330104 family, built with a M10 x 1 threaded stainless case and a flexible stainless armor over the probe cable. Its 8 mm tip is molded from polyphenylene sulfide, and the probe measures the gap between the tip and a conductive shaft or collar, producing the vibration and position signals that machinery protection monitors depend on. Seven Star LLC supplies this probe in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.

The part number follows the ordering pattern 330104-AA-BB-CC-DD-EE, which is decoded in the next section. With 190 mm of case and a 100 mm unthreaded portion, this probe is intended for installations where the probe passes through a long bore or probe holder and only the last 90 mm is threaded. That is a common arrangement in bearing housings that use a sleeve or an adapter that clamps the unthreaded body.

Decoding 330104-10-19-10-02-00

Field Code Meaning for this probe
Base model 330104 3300 XL 8 mm probe, M10 x 1 thread, with armor
AA: unthreaded length 10 100 mm (ordered in steps of 10 mm)
BB: overall case length 19 190 mm, which leaves 90 mm threaded
CC: total probe length 10 1.0 m (3.3 ft) of cable
DD: connector and cable type 02 miniature coaxial ClickLoc connector, standard cable, no connector protector
EE: agency approval 00 no agency approval option required

This decoding follows the ordering information table in the Bently Nevada 3300 XL 8 mm datasheet. The datasheet requires the unthreaded length to be shorter than the case length (by at least 20 mm), and gives the case length range as 20 to 250 mm.

How the 330104-10-19-10-02-00 measures

The probe tip contains a coil that is driven at high frequency by the 3300 XL Proximitor Sensor. Eddy currents induced in the conductive target absorb energy, and the Proximitor converts the change into a voltage proportional to the tip-to-target distance. The DC part of the signal is shaft position, for example thrust or average radial position, and the AC part is vibration. The same system can also produce a Keyphasor or speed signal from a notch or key on the shaft.

The Proximitor Sensor output has a 50 Ω resistance, the field wiring from the Proximitor to the monitor may be up to 305 m (1,000 ft), and the frequency response is flat from 0 to 10 kHz with up to 305 m of field wiring. The datasheet states that a standard 3300 XL 8 mm 5 m system complies with the API 670 requirements for mechanical configuration, linear range, accuracy and temperature stability.

Where the 330104-10-19-10-02-00 fits in the system

A 1.0 m probe is used as a 1 m system with a 330180-10, 330180-11 or 330180-12 Proximitor Sensor (panel mount, DIN mount or no mounting hardware), with no extension cable. It can also be combined with a 4.0 m 330130 extension cable (330130-040) and a 5 m Proximitor Sensor so that probe plus cable equals the Proximitor system length. Armored extension cable is available as 330130 with cable option 01 or 03 (armored, or armored with connector protector). Related probes in the same family include the unarmored 330103 and the sibling armored parts in the 330104 range.

The 3300 XL components are interchangeable with each other without bench matching. The datasheet notes that mixing XL and older 3300 components limits the system performance to the non-XL specification. The signal normally goes to a 3500 or other monitor input.

Selection checklist for 330104-10-19-10-02-00

  • Probe thread: M10 x 1; match the tapped hole or probe holder.
  • Case length 190 mm with 100 mm unthreaded.
  • Total length 1.0 m (3.3 ft), which must match the Proximitor system length with any extension cable.
  • Connector code 02: miniature coaxial ClickLoc connector, standard cable, no connector protector.
  • Approval code 00: no agency approval option required.
  • Target material: Proximitors are factory calibrated to AISI 4140 steel; ask if another target material applies.

The unthreaded length must be at least 20 mm shorter than the case, and here that margin is 90 mm, so the threaded portion is 90 mm. Confirm that the M10 x 1 bore in your holder starts at the right depth.

Installation, gapping and maintenance of 330104-10-19-10-02-00

Mount the probe so that the tip is square to the target and at least 38 mm (1.5 in) from the next radial probe tip, or 40 mm (1.6 in) for axial position probes, to limit cross-talk below 50 mV. Set the gap with the Proximitor powered, aiming for about -9 Vdc at the output (1.27 mm, 50 mils), and lock the probe with the locknut at the recommended case torque of 11.2 N·m (100 in·lbf). The connector is a finger-tight ClickLoc type and requires no tools; the maximum connector torque is 0.565 N·m. Minimum cable bend radius is 25.4 mm (1.0 in).

Armor protects the probe cable from abrasion and impact between the probe and the junction box, and the armor ferrule has a maximum diameter of 9.5 mm (0.38 in) according to the datasheet drawings, so plan the gland or conduit entry accordingly. This part has no connector protector fitted; the datasheet recommends protectors for all installations, and they can be supplied separately, or silicone tape from the extension cable can be used instead (not recommended where turbine oil can reach the connection).

In service, check the DC gap voltage against the commissioning record, inspect the tip for wear or oil ingress, and verify the loop with a test plug or the monitor’s own diagnostics. A probe exposed to temperatures below -34 °C (-30 °F) can have its pressure seal damaged, so keep that in mind during cold storage and transport.

Typical applications of 330104-10-19-10-02-00 in Oman and the GCC

Probes of this type are fitted to compressors, steam and gas turbines, pumps and motors on fluid-film bearings in oil and gas, power generation, desalination, petrochemical and industrial water plants. In the Gulf environment, ambient heat, dust and humidity are the main concerns for the field wiring and Proximitor housing. The probe itself is rated from -52 to +177 °C and showed under 3% scale-factor change in 93% humidity testing, per the datasheet, while the armor gives extra mechanical protection in congested machine skids.

Seven Star LLC can quote this probe with matching Proximitor Sensors, extension cables and mounting hardware for turbine and compressor overhauls, instrumentation upgrades and spare-parts stocking at sites in Oman and the wider GCC.

A proximity probe measures the gap to the shaft, so it sees shaft movement inside a fluid-film bearing directly. A velocity or acceleration sensor sits on the casing and suits rolling-element bearing machines. Critical turbomachinery usually carries two X-Y probes per bearing, two axial probes for thrust position and a Keyphasor probe for speed and phase.

Where Bently Nevada systems are used

In Oman and the GCC, Bently Nevada racks and probes protect gas turbines, compressors and steam turbines in gas processing, LNG, refining, petrochemical, power and desalination plants. Many installations are 3500 racks that have run for years, so most requests are for like-for-like module, probe, extension cable and proximitor replacements, plus upgrades to newer monitors.

Ordering and replacement: what we need

For probes and proximitors, send the full part number with all option digits (for example 330101-00-27-10-02-05). The digits set the probe length, cable length, connector and approvals, and the probe, cable and proximitor must match in total system length. For 3500 modules, send the module and I/O part numbers from the rack and say whether the I/O is internal or external termination, or barrier type. If a module is obsolete, we quote the replacement that Bently Nevada names and point out any configuration or firmware change.

FAQ

Questions about the Bently Nevada 330104-10-19-10-02-00 3300 XL 8 mm

Answers from our engineering team on installation, compatibility and integration.

01What does the part number 330104-10-19-10-02-00 mean?
It follows the pattern base model, unthreaded length, case length, total length, connector option and agency approval. The datasheet ordering table decodes each pair of digits, and the decoded values for this probe are in the table on this page.
02What is the linear range of this probe?
With a 3300 XL Proximitor Sensor the linear range is 2 mm (80 mils), from about 0.25 to 2.3 mm. The scale factor is 7.87 V/mm (200 mV/mil) and the recommended gap is about -9 Vdc (1.27 mm).
03What temperature can the probe withstand?
The standard 3300 XL 8 mm probe is rated from -52 to +177 °C (-62 to +350 °F). The extended temperature range version has a higher rating and is a different part number.
04Does this probe need an extension cable?
That depends on the system length. Probe length plus extension cable length must equal the Proximitor Sensor system length (1, 5 or 9 m), so a 1 m or 9 m probe may be used alone, while shorter probes need a matching cable.
05Can it be mixed with older 3300 components?
Yes, 3300 XL 8 mm components are electrically and physically interchangeable with non-XL 3300 5 mm and 8 mm parts, but mixing limits performance to the non-XL specification.
