Overview

Operating Principle

The Nivelco EasyTREK operates on the time-of-flight ultrasonic principle: the integrated transducer emits a short burst of ultrasonic pulses from above the liquid surface, and internal electronics precisely time the interval until the reflected echo returns. Because sound velocity in air is well characterized and temperature-compensated within the instrument, this time interval converts directly into an accurate distance-to-surface measurement, from which the transmitter derives level, volume, or flow depending on configuration. The transmitter continuously updates this reading and outputs it as a 4–20 mA analogue signal with superimposed HART digital communication.

Because the sensor never contacts the liquid, the EasyTREK introduces no moving parts into the measurement path, causes no pressure drop in the vessel, and carries no risk of process contamination from wetted seals or bearings. This non-contact architecture also means the instrument is largely immune to buildup, corrosion, or abrasion from the process media, which materially extends maintenance intervals compared to float- or contact-based level technologies in similar service.
