Wolf Safety Wolflite H-4DCALED LED Handlamp

Description

Primary-cell LED handlamp for Zone 1 and Zone 2 inspection rounds

The Wolf Safety Wolflite H-4DCALED is a primary-cell LED safety handlamp for potentially explosive gas, vapour, mist and dust atmospheres. It is certified to ATEX, IECEx and UKEX for gas Zones 1 and 2 and dust Zones 21 and 22, is CE and UKCA marked, and has Lloyd’s Register type approval.

It is the LED version of the earlier H-4DCA handlamp. Wolf quotes 269 lumens measured at the source, up to 45 hours of light from four LR20 alkaline cells, and a spot beam of about 4 degrees with a lower-level fringe, which suits long-range inspection of pipework, vessels and structures. A large switch can be operated with gloved hands, and the lamp comes with a detachable shoulder strap.

How it compares with a rechargeable lamp

A primary-cell lamp such as the H-4DCALED needs no charger, no charging station and no battery management programme, which is why it remains common for occasional use, spare inspection kits and remote locations. The cost is replacing four D cells after the quoted duration, whereas a rechargeable lamp such as the Wolflite XT range removes that routine.

The housing is made from an anti-static thermoplastic so that it does not accumulate a dangerous electrostatic charge, and the 6 mm toughened glass lens is sealed with a rubber seal plus a second seal at the lens ring joint to achieve IP66.

Selecting and using the lamp

Check that the plant zone, gas group and the T4 temperature class match the certificate marking before issuing the lamp. Use only the cells specified by Wolf, change them in a safe area, and keep the certificates in the equipment file. The ambient range is minus 10 to plus 40 degrees C, so it is not intended for freezer rooms or hot process areas.

Wolf also lists an IMPA code of 33 06 07 for the H-4DCALED, which helps marine buyers match the lamp to stores catalogues.

Wolf Safety product series

Portable lights include the Wolflite XT-70 and H-251ALED rechargeable LED handlamps, the Wolflite H-4DCALED handlamp, the HT-650 Zone 0 ATEX LED headtorch and the LinkEx WF-250XL LED floodlite for temporary area lighting.

Fixed hazardous-area luminaires include the LHX1 LED highbay, the LBX LED bulkhead and the LFX1 LED floodlight.

Equipment for hazardous areas is selected by zone and gas group: Zone 0 headtorches such as the HT-650 are used inside vessels where explosive atmospheres may be present continuously, while handlamps and floodlights serve Zone 1 and Zone 2 work. Rechargeable lamps need the matching charger, which is used in a safe area.

Where Wolf lighting is used

Tank and vessel entry, refinery and gas plant maintenance, offshore and marine areas, shutdowns and fixed lighting of Zone 1 and Zone 2 areas.
