A four-port 4G router with dual SIM backup

The NE22004-103111, marked PRO in the datasheet, is an industrial cellular VPN router for public and private LTE networks. Its four Ethernet ports let it serve a small cluster of devices directly, for example a PLC, an HMI, a camera and a laptop port, without an extra switch. Dual SIM backup, RS232 and RS485 Serial to IP, and 2 DI plus 2 DO complete the interface set.

The metal DIN-rail case is 106 x 106 x 40 mm, and the supply range is 9 to 48 V DC. The photo on this page shows the unit mounted both vertically and horizontally, which reflects the rail or panel options.

Where four Ethernet ports are in use, the router can act as the local gateway, DHCP source and firewall for the whole cabinet. The optional Wi-Fi module adds a 2.4 GHz access point or client function at 300 Mbps, and the optional GNSS receiver supports five satellite systems with NMEA-0183 output for asset tracking.

How it compares and where it fits

Select the NE22004 over the two-port NE22003-101111 when you need local LAN ports for more than two devices, such as a kiosk, vending or digital-signage cabinet, or a small machine cell. The datasheet shows the same serial, DI/DO and VPN feature set across the pair, so the port count is the decision. See the range overview on NE22001-101100.

Ethernet is 10/100 Mbps, so it is not intended for high-bandwidth video aggregation. Ask Winsonic for the cellular band list for your operator before ordering. Fit the antennas away from metalwork and provide a protective earth where required.

The router supports a connection manager with ping detection, timer reboot and call reboot, SMS configuration and notification, and remote management through the devices management platform, which reduces onsite maintenance. Protocol converter apps include Modbus master and slave, Modbus gateway, IEC 101 to 104, Modbus to DNP3 and Modbus to SparkplugB, so field data can be passed to SCADA or cloud platforms. The datasheet notes that more apps are available on request.

Wire the supply to the locking 3-pin socket and use the terminal blocks for serial and I/O. The dual SIM function switches automatically when the data allowance is exhausted, the network is lost or the data connection fails. The housing is metal, 300 g, and rated IP30, so keep it inside a cabinet. EN 50155 vibration and E-mark approvals are printed in the datasheet; check the exact scope with Winsonic if you need certificates for a rail or vehicle tender.
