Ashcroft 1009 Duralife Stainless Steel Pressure Gauge

Description

Overview

The Ashcroft 1009 Duralife® is an all-welded stainless steel pressure gauge in 2½ and 3½ inch dial sizes, built to meet ASME B40.100. Ashcroft developed it for pumps and compressors, boilers, equipment skids, specialised OEM equipment, hydraulics and pneumatics, ammonia and refrigeration, and severe ambient conditions. It combines a 316 stainless steel Bourdon tube, a stainless steel case and bayonet ring, and a movement engineered to resist shock, vibration and pulsation. Because of this combination, the Ashcroft 1009 is a frequent choice for small-dial process indication on packaged equipment.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Ashcroft 1009 to OEMs, skid builders, HVAC and utility contractors and plant maintenance teams in Oman and across the GCC, with engineering support in Muscat. When a packaged compressor, chiller or pump set arrives fitted with this gauge, we help customers match the exact ordering code for direct replacements.

Operating Principle and Movement

Like other Bourdon tube gauges, the Ashcroft 1009 converts the slight straightening of a curved tube under pressure into pointer rotation. Ashcroft’s PowerFlex™ movement, in 304 stainless steel with a glass-filled polyester segment, is designed to give superior resistance to shock, vibration and pulsation. The True Zero™ feature uses a “zero box” on the dial instead of conventional dial pins, so a pointer that has shifted from overpressure or damage is easy to spot rather than hidden by a stop pin.

Two dampening approaches are offered. Liquid filling with glycerin is standard on filled gauges, with silicone, Halocarbon® or food-grade silicone fills available, and the gauge is field fillable. Alternatively, Ashcroft’s PLUS!™ Performance option dampens vibration, shock and pulsation without liquid fill, which avoids leaks and fill discolouration. Throttle plugs in brass or stainless steel can be added to restrict pressure surges, and the measuring system is MSL helium leak tested to 1 x 10-6 scc/s.

Engineering Design of the Ashcroft 1009

Two wetted systems are available. The 1009AW combines a 316 stainless steel Bourdon tube with an aluminium/bronze connection for ranges up to 1,000 psi, while the 1009SW uses a 316 stainless steel tube with a 316L stainless steel connection for vacuum, compound and pressure ranges up to 15,000 psi, and is NSF-61 compliant. The case and removable bayonet ring are 304 stainless steel, optionally 316L on SW systems, and the window is polycarbonate, with safety glass as an option.

Process connections include ⅛ NPT, ¼ NPT and ½ NPT male (½ NPT on SW only), SAE-4 straight thread, 37° flare, ¼ BSP, ¼ JIS, G ¼ DIN and tube connections, located at lower, lower back, top, 3 o’clock or 9 o’clock. Mounting options are U-clamp, front flange or back flange. Weather protection is IP65 with the fill plug closed and IP54 vented, as well as NEMA 4X, and approvals include RoHS, CRN, CE and NSF-61.

Key Features

Buyers choose the Ashcroft 1009 for these reasons.

  • All-welded stainless steel construction for corrosive plant atmospheres and washdown areas.
  • Accuracy of ±1% of span dry (ASME B40.100 grade 1A) and ±1.5% of span liquid filled.
  • PowerFlex™ movement provides superior resistance to shock, vibration and pulsation.
  • True Zero™ zero box reduces reading errors compared with stop-pin dials.
  • SW system covers vacuum and compound ranges up to 15,000 psi with 316L connection.
  • Choice of liquid filling, field filling or PLUS!™ Performance dampening.
  • Five connection locations and many thread types simplify retrofits on imported equipment.
  • Options include oxygen cleaning, red set hands, stainless steel tags and traceable calibration certificates.

Industrial Applications

In Oman the Ashcroft 1009 is found on air compressors, refrigeration and ammonia systems in food cold stores, chillers and pump sets in district cooling plants, boiler feed and steam systems in hotels and hospitals, hydraulic power units and chemical injection skids in oil fields, and OEM equipment from US manufacturers. Its compact 2½ inch size suits manifolds and small skids, while the 3½ inch size gives a clearer reading on pump discharge headers.

For larger dials and heavy process duty, the Ashcroft 1279 Duragauge Pressure Gauge offers a solid-front design, and the Ashcroft 2089 Precision Digital Test Gauge is the right tool for calibration and testing. Where a WIKA equivalent is preferred, the WIKA 232.50 Stainless Steel Bourdon Tube Pressure Gauge offers comparable stainless construction. Seven Star LLC supplies the Ashcroft 1009 with engineering support, so maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC can replace gauges on imported packages without long waits.

Reading the Ordering Code

An example code from the datasheet is 251009 SW L 02 L XC4 100#: 25 is the dial size, 1009 the model, SW the wetted system, L liquid filled, 02 a ¼ NPT connection, L lower location, XC4 a traceable calibration certificate option and 100# the range. Sending us the code from the dial or the old gauge is the quickest way to get an exact Ashcroft 1009 replacement.

Temperature limits also guide the choice of dampening. Per the datasheet, PLUS!™ gauges and silicone-filled gauges accept ambient temperatures of −40 to 66 °C and process temperatures of −40 to 93 °C, while glycerin-filled gauges start at −7 °C. As general advice for outdoor installations in Oman, where summer ambient temperatures are high but winters are mild, glycerin filling is usually adequate, and silicone or PLUS!™ is preferred on refrigeration and cold-service equipment.

About brand
The Duragauge has been a common sight on process pipework for generations, and it is the product most people mean when they ask for an Ashcroft pressure gauge. Ashcroft, founded in 1852 and based in Stratford, USA, makes pressure, temperature and test instruments. Seven Star LLC sources and supplies Ashcroft gauges and related instruments for plants and contractors in Oman and the GCC.

Ashcroft gauges listed

Two instruments are on this page. The 1279 Duragauge is a process pressure gauge with a solid-front safety case. The 2089 is a precision digital test gauge, the kind used as a reference when other gauges and transmitters are checked. Beyond these, the manufacturer's program covers pressure switches, pressure sensors, diaphragm seals, thermometers, thermowells and hand pumps.

Ordering Ashcroft gauges: what we need

An Ashcroft gauge code is built from dial size, case type, wetted material, connection and range. Send the code from the dial or the nameplate if it is readable. Otherwise state the dial size, the pressure range and units, connection size and position (lower or back), the tube and socket material, and whether liquid filling or a diaphragm seal is needed. Mention the process medium and temperature. For the 2089, give the range, pressure type and units.
