Thermo Fisher Ramsey Series 14 Precision Belt Scale System
Overview
The Thermo Fisher Ramsey Series 14 is a precision conveyor belt scale system from the Thermo Scientific Ramsey bulk weighing line, designed for high accuracy or basis-of-payment applications that require certification by government and regulatory agencies. Thermo Fisher Scientific states that the system is accurate to within plus or minus 0.125 percent and is the most widely certified belt scale in the world. It lets operators monitor production output and inventory, or regulate product loadout, while providing the weighing data needed to manage the business efficiently.
Seven Star LLC supplies the Thermo Fisher Ramsey Series 14 and its components and spares to cement plants, mines, quarries, ports, power stations and bulk terminals in Oman and the GCC. We help collect the conveyor data needed for engineering and provide model selection support from Muscat.
Measurement Principle
A belt scale measures material flow by combining two signals: the load on a known length of belt and the speed of the belt. In the Thermo Fisher Ramsey Series 14, the Ramsey 10-14 weighbridge replaces three or four conveyor idlers and supports them on four strain gauge load cells, so the weight of material passing over the weigh span is measured continuously. The Ramsey 61-12N digital speed sensor, coupled directly to the tail pulley, a snubbing roll or a large return roller, produces 64 pulses per shaft revolution to report belt travel.
The Ramsey Flex digitizer converts the load cell and speed signals to digital form with a 24-bit, 100 Hz sigma-delta converter, and the Ramsey Flex integrator multiplies load per unit length by belt speed to calculate the flow rate and integrates it into a conveyed mass total. Because the speed sensor of the Thermo Fisher Ramsey Series 14 is directly coupled rather than running on the belt, problems from material build-up and wheel slippage are avoided. In general terms, the accuracy of any belt scale depends as much on conveyor alignment, belt tension and idler quality around the scale as on the scale itself.
Engineering Design of the Thermo Fisher Ramsey Series 14
The Ramsey 10-14 weighbridge of the Thermo Fisher Ramsey Series 14 is a full-floating, pivotless unitized assembly with no moving parts, built from structural steel tubing and factory pre-assembled with check rods for fast field installation. Only eight bolts are needed to mount it to the conveyor stringers, and four environmentally sealed precision strain gauge load cells are applied in tension. The minimum weigh span is 2743 mm with three or four idler suspension, and no space is needed above the belt line.
The Ramsey Flex integrator comes in a 316 stainless steel IP66 enclosure, as a field mount unit with a 7 inch 1024 x 600 capacitive touchscreen, a panel mount with HMI for the control room, or a blind version for remote or harsh locations. It runs on an Arm Cortex A7 processor with 32 GB storage, accepts 24 V DC or 110 to 230 V AC, and provides two 4-20 mA inputs and outputs, two 0-5 V inputs and outputs, four digital inputs and outputs, two RS232/RS485 ports, and Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET and PROFIBUS interfaces. A web-based interface allows management from a network PC, and one integrator can handle two scale digitizers.

Industrial Applications
The Thermo Fisher Ramsey Series 14 is aimed at loadout, inventory monitoring and fee-holder type applications that need certification, such as ship and train loading at bulk ports, cement and clinker dispatch, coal receipt at power stations, aggregate and limestone sales from quarries, and ore and concentrate accounting at mines. In Oman, the Thermo Fisher Ramsey Series 14 suits limestone and gypsum export terminals, cement plants and mining operations, and bulk handling at ports such as Sohar, Duqm and Salalah.

Calibration and Maintenance
The accuracy guarantee of the Thermo Fisher Ramsey Series 14 is defined against an actual weighed material test, so a material calibration with a certified static scale is the reference method. Between material tests, simulated calibration checks confirm stability. As general practice, keep the idlers in the scale area well aligned and free of build-up, and inspect belt tracking regularly.

The MAX-iR FTIR gas analyzer
An FTIR analyzer passes infrared light through a gas cell and records the whole absorption spectrum at once. Each compound absorbs at its own wavelengths, so one measurement can report many gases together, including species that simpler single-gas analyzers cannot separate. Thermo Fisher describes the MAX-iR for in-line process monitoring, batch sampling, gas purity certification, emissions testing and ambient air monitoring, and catalogs separate configurations for those duties.Ordering a Thermo Fisher gas analyzer: what we need
Tell us the gases to be measured and the expected range of each, the background gas, sample pressure, temperature and moisture content, and whether the duty is process, emissions or purity testing. Add the supply voltage and any area classification. We check the configuration against the manufacturer's documentation and provide the datasheet with the quotation on request.Browse Thermo Fisher Scientific products by category: Gas Analyzer Systems.
