A 110 mm tapered bore spherical roller bearing for heavy, misaligned and shock-loaded shafts

The SKF 23222 CCK/W33 is a double row spherical roller bearing of the 232 series with a tapered bore, a 110 mm nominal bore, 200 mm outside diameter and 69.8 mm width. It is self-aligning, so it accommodates misalignment and shaft deflection with virtually no increase in friction or temperature, and it carries heavy radial loads together with axial loads in both directions. SKF lists it in the Explorer performance class with P5 running accuracy, and it is made for the heavy duty services where spherical roller bearings are the standard solution: gearboxes, crushers, vibrating screens, fans, mining and steel plant equipment.

The designation says what you get. CC is the SKF design with two stamped window-type steel cages, an inner ring without flanges and a floating guide ring. K means a tapered 1:12 bore, so the bearing is mounted on an adapter sleeve or directly on a tapered journal; W33 means an annular groove and three lubrication holes in the outer ring for relubrication. The 232 series is the wide, high-capacity version of the 222 series, with a dynamic rating of 626 kN against 572 kN for the narrower 22222 E of the same bore and outside diameter.

Mounting, sleeves and what to confirm before ordering

A tapered bore bearing must be fitted with an interference fit that is set by driving it up the taper, which reduces the internal clearance. The catalogue gives the adapter sleeve for the 23222 CCK/W33 as H 2322; the sleeve, locknut and locking device are ordered with the bearing, and the shaft only needs to be a plain turned diameter. The relubrication features let you supply grease through the outer ring directly onto the rollers, which suits heavy duty service with regular regreasing.
