Brand:

SKF 22212 E Spherical Roller Bearing, 60x110x28 mm

Description

The 222 series spherical roller bearing that absorbs shaft misalignment

The SKF 22212 E is a double row spherical roller bearing with a cylindrical 60 mm bore, 110 mm outside diameter and 28 mm width. It has two rows of symmetrical rollers running on a common sphered outer ring raceway, which makes the bearing self-aligning: it tolerates shaft deflection and mounting misalignment while carrying heavy radial loads and axial loads in both directions.

It is one of the most widely stocked spherical roller sizes for pumps, fans, gearboxes, conveyors and general industrial machinery. SKF lists it as an Explorer bearing with relubrication features, so the outer ring has an annular groove and lubrication holes, and the bearing can be greased through the housing without any machining of the housing bore.

Designation, variants and sleeves

222 is the dimension series and 12 gives the 60 mm bore (12 multiplied by five). The suffix E identifies the SKF design with optimised internal geometry for higher load capacity. In the SKF brochure, E design bearings have two stamped window-type steel cages, an inner ring without flanges and a floating guide ring; for bores up to 65 mm the guide ring is centred on the inner ring. The annular groove and three lubrication holes are standard on E bearings and are not shown as a suffix. Adding K gives the tapered bore (1:12): 22212 EK, listed in the brochure with adapter sleeve H 312 or with withdrawal sleeve AHX 312.

The brochure gives a permissible angular misalignment of 2 degrees for series 222 in sizes below 52. A bearing on an adapter sleeve is easier to fit to a plain shaft, while a cylindrical bore like this one needs a machined seat with an interference fit. Radial internal clearance for the cylindrical bore version is 40 to 65 micrometres in the normal group.

Application and ordering notes

Choose this bearing when the housing and shaft are likely to be slightly out of line, or where shaft bending under load cannot be avoided; the self-aligning property comes without increased friction or temperature. It also works as the locating bearing next to a CARB toroidal roller bearing in a self-aligning arrangement. Keep the shaft shoulder diameter at least 69 mm and the housing shoulder no more than 101 mm.

Please state the bore type (cylindrical or K), the clearance class (normal or C3) and the cage when you order, and confirm whether a plummer block or housing is to be supplied with it. For other bearings on the site see Electric Motors; the SKF TKSA 41 laser shaft alignment tool helps verify alignment after installation.

About brand

SKF is the Swedish bearing manufacturer founded in Gothenburg in 1907. The company was built on the self-aligning ball bearing developed by engineer Sven Wingquist, who became its first managing director. Today SKF also makes seals, lubrication systems, condition monitoring equipment and maintenance tools.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list SKF bearings, greases, automatic lubricators, condition monitoring sensors and maintenance tools, and supply them to maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC by designation.

Product families Rolling bearings, seals, lubricants and lubrication systems, condition monitoring sensors and analysers, and maintenance tools for mounting, alignment and dismounting

Milestones

  • 1907: Sven Wingquist's self-aligning ball bearing is patented and SKF is founded in Gothenburg.
  • 1908: The first factory is built.

An SKF designation describes the bearing exactly. In 6205-2RSH/C3, "62" is a light-series deep groove ball bearing, "05" means a 25 mm bore (05 × 5), "2RSH" means rubber seals on both sides, and "C3" means internal clearance larger than normal, which motors often need because the inner ring runs warmer than the outer. Choosing the right grease matters just as much: a general grease such as LGMT 2 suits most motors, while heavy loads, high temperatures or slow speeds need an EP, high-temperature or high-viscosity grade.

Where SKF products are used

In Oman and the GCC, SKF bearings, lubricants and tools are used by maintenance teams in oil and gas, power and desalination, cement, mining, steel, water and food plants, and by motor and pump repair workshops.

Ordering SKF products: what we need

Send the full bearing designation including all suffixes (seals, clearance, cage), and the quantity. For greases, send the grade and pack size. For tools and lubricators, send the model and, for heaters, the largest bearing weight and bore you need to heat.
