A high-capacity tapered roller bearing with ISO interchangeable dimensions
The NSK HR30210J is a single-row metric tapered roller bearing with a 50 mm bore, 90 mm outside diameter and 21.75 mm width. The raceway cones of the inner and outer rings and the rollers share one apex on the shaft axis, so the bearing carries radial and one-directional axial load together. NSK marks its high load capacity series with HR, and the J suffix means the outer ring back-face diameter, outer ring width and contact angle follow ISO specifications. The catalogue states that, as a result, the inner ring assembly and outer ring of a J bearing are internationally interchangeable. Arrangements and adjustment
Because a radial load creates an axial force component in a tapered roller bearing, two bearings must be used in opposition or in another multiple arrangement. NSK lists back-to-back and face-to-face pairs, for example HR30210JDB with spacers and HR30210JDF, in which the clearance is set with inner or outer ring spacers, and components with the same serial number and mating marks must stay together. Double-row and four-row designs are also available for heavier duty. Medium-angle and steep-angle bearings carry a C or D after the bore number; normal-angle bearings such as this one have no letter. The cage is usually pressed steel.
Setting the axial clearance or preload is part of fitting: too tight raises temperature, too loose reduces stiffness and life.
