SKF TIH 100m Medium Induction Bearing Heater, 120 kg
Description
Heating bearings up to 120 kg without a flame
The SKF TIH 100m is the medium heater of the SKF TIH…m range. It heats a bearing by induction so that the inner ring expands and slides onto its shaft without hammering or an open flame. SKF states that it can heat a 97 kg bearing in under 20 minutes, and its application example is a 23156 CC/W33 spherical roller bearing (97 kg) taken to 110 C in 20 minutes.
It is supplied with three yokes, so bearings with a bore diameter from 20 mm up to a maximum weight of 120 kg can be handled. A swivel arm for the large yoke speeds up bearing replacement and reduces operator fatigue. The induction coil sits outside the housing, which SKF credits with shorter heating time and lower energy consumption.

Built-in features
The leaflet lists foldable bearing support arms that allow larger diameter bearings to be heated and reduce the risk of the bearing toppling, a magnetic temperature probe combined with a temperature mode preset at 110 C to help prevent overheating, a remote control with display and control panel, internal storage for the smaller yokes, and integrated carrying handles. Current control and cut-outs against overheating belong to the standard feature set of the range. Maximum heating temperature depends on the weight and geometry of the bearing or workpiece.
Choosing between the TIH heaters
SKF defines its m20 concept as the weight of the heaviest SKF spherical roller bearing of series 231 that the heater can take from 20 to 110 C in 20 minutes. For the TIH 100m this is a 100 kg class machine, between the small SKF TIH 030m and the large TIH 220m. Pick by the heaviest bearing you mount, then check the bore against the yoke set. For components other than bearings SKF recommends considering its TIH L MB series; ask SKF or us to check the part first.
Before ordering, state the supply voltage (230 V or medium voltage version), the heaviest bearing weight and bore, and the plug or connection standard the site needs, because special voltage versions exist only for specific countries. Heaters are listed with other thermal tools under Induction Heating & Preheating.
Preparing the workshop and the bearing
Induction heating is clean and controlled, but it still needs a planned work area. Place the TIH 100m on a stable, level bench or trolley that can carry the heater together with the heaviest bearing you intend to mount, and keep the area around the yoke free of loose tools, rings, watches and other metal objects that could be heated by the magnetic field. Check that the supply socket and protective device match the version ordered, either the 230 V model or the medium voltage model, before the heater is connected for the first time.
Clean the shaft seat and the bearing bore, measure both and compare the fit with the shaft drawing before heating starts. Heating only makes mounting easier; it does not correct a wrong fit, a damaged seat or burrs on the shoulder. Have the lifting gear, heat-resistant gloves and any locating sleeve ready so that the bearing can be moved and pushed home quickly while it is still expanded.
Selecting and placing the yoke
Use the largest of the three supplied yokes that passes through the bearing bore, since a yoke that fills the bore gives better coupling than a small one. Lay larger bearings on the foldable support arms rather than letting them hang on the yoke alone, and for the large yoke use the swivel arm so that the operator does not have to lift and guide it by hand. Make sure the contact faces between yoke and coil column are clean, because dirt or damage there increases noise and reduces heating performance.
Running a heating cycle
For rolling bearings, the temperature mode with the magnetic probe is the usual method. Fix the probe on the inner ring, where the heat is generated and where the expansion is needed, and keep the preset temperature unless the bearing maker’s mounting instructions call for something different. The heater uses the probe reading to stop the cycle, which helps protect lubricant, seals and cages in sealed or greased bearings.
When the cycle ends, the heater demagnetises the part automatically. Lift the bearing off with suitable gloves or lifting equipment, slide it onto the shaft in one smooth movement and hold it against the shoulder until it has cooled enough to grip. If the bearing is allowed to cool partly on the shaft before it is fully home, it can seize in the wrong position and will then have to be removed with a puller.
Care of the heater in Omani plants
Maintenance workshops at refineries, cement plants, mines and desalination sites in Oman are often hot and dusty. Store the heater in its own area away from grinding and blasting work, wipe dust from the housing and cooling openings, and keep the yokes in the internal storage so that their faces stay clean and undamaged. Inspect the supply cable, plug, remote control and probe cable regularly, and remove the unit from service if insulation is damaged.
Train each operator on the instructions for use supplied by SKF, including the safety warnings for people with pacemakers or other medical implants, who should keep away from induction heaters during operation. A short written work instruction kept next to the heater helps keep the method consistent between shifts and contractors.

About brand
SKF, founded in 1907 in Gothenburg, Sweden, is best known for rolling bearings, seals and lubrication systems, and it also makes the tools maintenance crews use to mount, align and monitor rotating equipment. Seven Star LLC lists SKF bearings, maintenance tools and condition monitoring instruments and supplies them by full designation to plants and workshops in Oman.
SKF bearings and maintenance tools listed here
Four items show the spread of the range: the 6206-2RS1 deep groove ball bearing with rubber seals on both sides, the TIH 030m induction heater for mounting bearings, the TKSA 41 laser shaft alignment tool, and the Microlog Analyzer AX (CMXA 80) vibration data collector. Other SKF bearings can be quoted from the full designation.
Ordering SKF bearings and tools: what we need
An SKF bearing designation is read in three parts: the basic number, then suffixes for seals or shields, cage, clearance and tolerance. Send it complete, for example 6206-2RS1/C3, because the suffixes change the part. For tools and instruments, send the model designation and say which accessories or kits you need. If markings are worn off, give us bore, outside diameter and width in millimeters. We answer SKF spare parts inquiries from all GCC countries.
