NETZSCH TORNADO T1-F Rotary Lobe Pump

Description

Overview

The NETZSCH TORNADO T1-F is the current industrial rotary lobe pump in the NETZSCH TORNADO® range, built for maximum operational safety through a strict separation between pump chamber and gearbox chamber. NETZSCH recommends the NETZSCH TORNADO T1-F for environment and energy, chemicals and paper, mining and oil and gas, where it handles viscous, solids-laden, abrasive or contaminated media with a self-priming action and a constant flow rate, and where it tolerates dry running.

Seven Star LLC supplies the NETZSCH TORNADO T1-F to water and wastewater utilities, oilfield service companies, terminals and industrial plants in Oman and the GCC, supported by engineering support in Muscat. Our engineers help define lobe type, materials and seals and assemble the documentation package for each project.

Operating Principle

A rotary lobe pump is a rotating positive displacement pump. In the NETZSCH TORNADO T1-F, two lobes turn in opposite directions inside the casing, driven and kept in phase by a synchronising gearbox. Liquid fills the space between each lobe and the housing on the suction side and is carried around the casing wall to the discharge side, giving a defined volume per revolution and a flow that stays nearly constant even when system pressure varies.

Because the lobes do not touch each other or the housing, the NETZSCH TORNADO T1-F can pass solids and fibrous material, run at low speed with high efficiency, and survive periods of dry running. The NETZSCH Gearbox Security System (GSS) spatially separates the pump chamber from the gearbox, preventing the medium from entering the synchronising gear and gear oil from entering the pump chamber — a key safeguard against unplanned shutdowns.

Engineering Design of the NETZSCH TORNADO T1-F

The one-piece pump housing has a flow-optimised profile, and replaceable, highly abrasion-resistant and chemically resistant wear plates sit at both ends; optional radial wear plates further extend service life on abrasive media. Lobes are available as two-, three- or four-wing designs, straight or helical, in various materials. After opening the front cover, lobes, wear plates and shaft seals can be serviced or replaced without dismantling the casing or disconnecting the suction and discharge pipework.

Service-friendly shaft seals, either low-wear direction-independent seals or application-specific mechanical seals, sit behind patented sealing sleeves that never touch the medium and can be removed quickly. Flushing and sealing water connections are easy to reach. NETZSCH states the NETZSCH TORNADO T1-F is suitable for pressures up to ten bar on most sizes, offers excellent energy efficiency with reduced drive power, and is ATEX and CE certified for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.

Key Features

The NETZSCH TORNADO T1-F provides these practical benefits on site:

  • GSS technology keeps product out of the gearbox and gear oil out of the pump chamber for long-term reliability.
  • Maintenance in place: lobes, wear plates and seals are accessible from the front cover without removing pipework.
  • Patented sealing sleeves that never contact the medium shorten seal replacement times.
  • Self-priming and insensitive to dry running, unlike most centrifugal pumps.
  • Replaceable wear plates on both housing ends protect the casing on abrasive media.
  • Modular design lets size, lobe geometry and materials be matched to the medium and adjusted later.
  • Energy-efficient operation with reduced drive power lowers total cost of ownership.
  • ATEX and CE certification for installation in hazardous areas.

Industrial Applications

In Oman and the wider GCC the NETZSCH TORNADO T1-F is well suited to sludge transfer and digester feed in sewage treatment plants, membrane bioreactor (MBR) duties, wellpoint dewatering on construction sites, drilling mud and produced-water handling around oilfield facilities, oily water and slop transfer at terminals, and loading or unloading of oil from ships. NETZSCH also lists petrochemical, mining and paper starch duties for the TORNADO range.

Where a mobile or higher-duty lobe pump is already in service, the NETZSCH TORNADO T2 rotary lobe pump offers a related option, while very viscous or shear-sensitive products with high solids may suit the NETZSCH NEMO BY NM038BY progressing cavity pump. Seven Star LLC supplies the NETZSCH TORNADO T1-F throughout Oman and the GCC and supports maintenance teams with wear parts planning from Muscat.

Plants that use a progressing cavity pump for thick sludge often add a TORNADO lobe pump for the higher-flow, lower-viscosity stages of the same process, and for clean oil transfer a gear pump such as the KRACHT KP Series internal gear pump may be more economical.

About brand
Thick, abrasive or shear-sensitive media are where NETZSCH pumps are normally specified. The NETZSCH group dates from 1873 and has its base in Selb, Germany, and its Pumps and Systems business builds positive displacement pumps in several technologies. Seven Star LLC lists NETZSCH progressing cavity, rotary lobe and multi screw pumps, and supplies NETZSCH pumps and wear parts to plants in Oman as an independent supplier.

NETZSCH pump families listed here

The manufacturer groups its pumps under three main names, and one of each is listed. NEMO is the progressing cavity line, here the NEMO BY in block construction, model NM038BY. TORNADO is the rotary lobe line, with the TORNADO T2. NOTOS is the multi screw line, represented by the NOTOS 3NS three screw pump for lubricating liquids. People searching for a NETZSCH screw pump may mean either NEMO or NOTOS, so the nameplate matters. These pumps are found in wastewater, food, chemical and oil and gas service, all present in the GCC.

Ordering NETZSCH pumps and parts: what we need

Send the pump type and the machine or serial number from the nameplate. For spare parts name the item: rotor, stator, joint kit, seal, lobes. For a new pump give the medium, viscosity, solids content, temperature, flow, pressure and motor data.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the NETZSCH TORNADO T1-F reliable?
The NETZSCH TORNADO T1-F uses the NETZSCH Gearbox Security System, which separates the pump chamber from the gearbox so that product cannot reach the gears and gear oil cannot enter the pumped medium. It is also insensitive to dry running.
Can the NETZSCH TORNADO T1-F be maintained without removing it from the pipeline?
Yes. After opening the front cover, lobes, wear plates and shaft seals can be serviced or replaced without dismantling the casing or disconnecting the suction and discharge pipework.
What flows and pressures does the NETZSCH TORNADO T1-F cover?
Published sizes cover roughly 3 to 1,400 m3/h, with pressures up to 10 bar on most sizes and up to 12 bar on the XXLB-2F, at speeds between 500 and 800 rpm.
Is the NETZSCH TORNADO T1-F suitable for hazardous areas?
NETZSCH states that the pumps are ATEX and CE certified, so they can be used in potentially explosive atmospheres when configured accordingly.
Does Seven Star LLC supply the NETZSCH TORNADO T1-F in Oman?
Yes. Seven Star LLC supplies NETZSCH TORNADO pumps across Oman and the GCC, with engineering support in Muscat.
