NETZSCH NEMO Multiphase Progressing Cavity Pump

Description

Overview

The NETZSCH NEMO Multiphase progressing cavity pump is designed to raise oil and gas production efficiency in fields whose quality is declining. It pumps the untreated well stream — oil, gas, water and sand — without prior phase separation, so low-pressure wells can stay on line instead of being shut in. NETZSCH states that the NETZSCH NEMO Multiphase pump meets API 676 3rd edition and NACE MR0175 requirements, and it is offered in single and twin versions for flows up to 1,000 m³/h and pressures up to 72 bar.

For upstream operators in Oman and the GCC, where many mature fields produce rising water cuts and sand, Seven Star LLC supplies the NETZSCH NEMO Multiphase pump with engineering support in Muscat. We help operators and EPC contractors collect well data, review material and elastomer selection, and prepare the documentation that field development projects require.

Working Principle

A progressing cavity pump uses a single helical rotor turning eccentrically inside a stator with a double-helix bore. The geometry forms sealed cavities that move steadily from suction to discharge as the rotor turns, carrying gas, liquid and solids together. Because the cavity volume is fixed, the NETZSCH NEMO Multiphase pump maintains flow at changing gas fractions and can boost the pressure of a low-pressure well stream so it can enter a higher-pressure flowline.

This principle removes the need for space-intensive separators, separate pumps, compressors and parallel lines at the well; gas and liquid travel together to the central gathering station. With few leakage points in a closed system, the NETZSCH NEMO Multiphase approach also helps avoid flaring in the field, conserving resources and reducing emissions while keeping marginal wells profitable.

Engineering Design of the NETZSCH NEMO Multiphase

Rotors are available in wear- and corrosion-resistant alloys including duplex, super duplex, 254 SMO, Monel and NACE-compliant materials, with surface hardening for sandy media. Stators are standard tubular designs or uniform-wall designs with vulcanised face seals in a range of elastomers, plastics and metals; the flow-optimised stator inlet improves filling and significantly reduces NPSHr, and uniform-wall stators cope with high temperature fluctuations. Viton and HNBR are available for H2S-bearing and hot media.

Power passes from the drive through a drive shaft and connecting shaft with coupling rod and two universal joints, in the same alloy range. The standard seal is a single-acting, wear-resistant mechanical seal independent of rotation direction, with single or double seals, cartridges and recirculating systems on request. Flanges follow ASME, DIN and other standards, and low- or medium-voltage motors with reduction gears can be supplied, including lube oil systems to API 614 for high outputs.

Key Features

The NETZSCH NEMO Multiphase pump delivers these field benefits:

  • Pumps oil, gas, water and sand together without prior phase separation at the well.
  • Prevents premature shutdown of low-pressure wells and ties them into high-pressure flow lines.
  • Replaces separation equipment, compressors and parallel lines, reducing capital and operating cost.
  • Few potential leak points and avoidance of field flaring support environmental targets.
  • Low wear even with abrasive solids, helped by hardened rotors and specialised elastomers.
  • Efficient handling of highly viscous crude and oil-water mixtures with high sand and gas content.
  • Suitable for uncrewed operation with few personnel required.
  • Designed to API 676 3rd edition and NACE MR0175 requirements.

Industrial Applications

The NETZSCH NEMO Multiphase pump is aimed at oil and gas production, particularly mature onshore fields with declining reservoir pressure, increasing water cut and sand production — conditions found across many concessions in the Sultanate of Oman and neighbouring GCC states. Typical duties include wellhead and cluster boosting of untreated well streams, transfer of multiphase production to gathering stations, and handling of heavy crude and oil-water mixtures in remote, uncrewed locations.

For single-phase viscous or solids-laden transfer at a facility, operators often use the NETZSCH NEMO BY NM038BY progressing cavity pump, while clean oil transfer suits a multi screw pump such as the ALLWEILER TRILUB TRL screw pump. Seven Star LLC supplies the NETZSCH NEMO Multiphase pump throughout Oman and the GCC and coordinates technical clarification with the manufacturer from Muscat.

Because every multiphase installation is engineered to its well conditions, a request for a NETZSCH NEMO Multiphase pump should include the expected change in gas-volume fraction and water cut over the life of the field, so that stator elastomer, rotor geometry and drive rating can be chosen for long service. For auxiliary chemical injection or lube oil skids on the same site, operators often use a gear pump such as the KRACHT KF80RF2-D15 gear pump.

About brand
Thick, abrasive or shear-sensitive media are where NETZSCH pumps are normally specified. The NETZSCH group dates from 1873 and has its base in Selb, Germany, and its Pumps and Systems business builds positive displacement pumps in several technologies. Seven Star LLC lists NETZSCH progressing cavity, rotary lobe and multi screw pumps, and supplies NETZSCH pumps and wear parts to plants in Oman as an independent supplier.

NETZSCH pump families listed here

The manufacturer groups its pumps under three main names, and one of each is listed. NEMO is the progressing cavity line, here the NEMO BY in block construction, model NM038BY. TORNADO is the rotary lobe line, with the TORNADO T2. NOTOS is the multi screw line, represented by the NOTOS 3NS three screw pump for lubricating liquids. People searching for a NETZSCH screw pump may mean either NEMO or NOTOS, so the nameplate matters. These pumps are found in wastewater, food, chemical and oil and gas service, all present in the GCC.

Ordering NETZSCH pumps and parts: what we need

Send the pump type and the machine or serial number from the nameplate. For spare parts name the item: rotor, stator, joint kit, seal, lobes. For a new pump give the medium, viscosity, solids content, temperature, flow, pressure and motor data.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the NETZSCH NEMO Multiphase pump do?
The NETZSCH NEMO Multiphase pump boosts the untreated well stream — oil, gas, water and sand — without separating the phases first, keeping low-pressure wells producing and sending production directly to central gathering stations.
What are the performance limits of the NETZSCH NEMO Multiphase pump?
NETZSCH quotes a maximum pressure of 72 bar, up to 500 m3/h for the single version and up to 1,000 m3/h for the twin version, at speeds up to 250 rpm.
