NETZSCH NOTOS 2NS Two Screw Pump

Description

Overview

The NETZSCH NOTOS 2NS is a self-priming two screw pump in the NOTOS® multi screw family from NETZSCH Pumps & Systems, designed for a long service life when moving non-abrasive to slightly abrasive liquids. NETZSCH positions the NETZSCH NOTOS 2NS for oil and gas mid- and downstream, marine, power generation, process industry and tank farm duties, where it handles corrosive as well as non-corrosive media and both poorly and well lubricating liquids across low to high flow rates.

Seven Star LLC supplies the NETZSCH NOTOS 2NS to terminal operators, refineries, utilities and EPC contractors throughout Oman and the GCC, backed by engineering support in Muscat. We help customers choose the right size from the published range, define materials and seal plans, and assemble the technical file required for project approval.

Working Principle

In the NETZSCH NOTOS 2NS, a single drive screw transfers torque through a hydrodynamic film to one intermeshing driven screw. The screw flanks and the liner bore form sealed cavities that progress axially as the screws turn, pushing the liquid from suction to discharge in a steady stream. The result is continuous conveying with low pulsation, which protects downstream equipment and keeps shear on the product low.

Because the two screws are hydraulically balanced, axial thrust is largely compensated and bearing loads stay moderate, which supports long running periods in transfer and circulation service. As with the 3NS, the pumped liquid provides the lubricating film, so NETZSCH states that the NETZSCH NOTOS 2NS must not run dry; an application-specific design ensures safe operation when fill levels fluctuate.

Engineering Design of the NETZSCH NOTOS 2NS

The screws are nitrided in alloy steel or stainless steel and shaped to the NETZSCH High Efficiency Unique Design (HEUD) concept for tight tolerances and high efficiency. The housing uses a replaceable lining and is available with an optional heating jacket to keep viscous products at the required temperature, plus port layouts such as top-top, side-top or in-line. Internal bearing bushes support radial loads.

Under suction pressure the NETZSCH NOTOS 2NS needs only one mechanical seal, and a magnetic drive is optional. Arrangements cover foot, vertical, semi-submersible and flange-mounted executions. Accessories include internal or external relief valves, vibration and temperature sensors, API 682 cartridge seals and API seal plans, while materials extend from grey cast iron and chrome-nickel steel to duplex, super duplex and Hastelloy. An optional upgrade brings the design to API 676 (4th edition) requirements.

Key Features

Engineers specify the NETZSCH NOTOS 2NS for these reasons:

  • Long service life when handling non-abrasive to slightly abrasive liquids, including corrosive media with suitable materials.
  • Hydraulically balanced two screw design that keeps bearing loads moderate in continuous operation.
  • Low pulsation and gentle product handling that protects meters, filters and downstream equipment.
  • Excellent suction capability for tank stripping and difficult suction conditions.
  • Published sizes from 10 m³/h up to 650 m³/h at up to 16 bar on the standard performance table.
  • Replaceable lining and optional heating jacket for viscous products such as heavy fuel oil and bitumen.
  • One mechanical seal under suction pressure, with an optional magnetic drive for leak-free service.
  • Optional API 676 4th edition design with API 682 seals for oil and gas projects.

Industrial Applications

Typical duties for the NETZSCH NOTOS 2NS in the region include crude and product transfer in tank farms, loading and unloading at marine terminals, heavy fuel oil and diesel supply in power and desalination plants, and circulation of process liquids in petrochemical units in Sohar and Duqm. NETZSCH lists crude oil, heavy oil, heating oil, lubricants, fuels and bitumen among the media handled by NOTOS multi screw pumps, and its larger 2NS sizes reach 650 m³/h for high-volume transfer.

Where higher pressure on clean lube oil is needed, the 3NS is usually the better choice, while very high flows point to the NOTOS 4NS. For lower-flow oil supply, customers also compare the KRACHT KF80RF2-D15 gear pump. Seven Star LLC supplies the NETZSCH NOTOS 2NS across Oman, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain with selection support from Muscat.

A NETZSCH NOTOS 2NS selection normally begins with the lowest expected tank level and the vapour pressure of the product, because suction capability decides whether a tank can be stripped fully. The data sheet should also state the maximum viscosity at cold start, since this sets the motor rating. For solids-laden or very viscous sludges a progressing cavity design such as the NETZSCH NEMO BY NM038BY progressing cavity pump is preferable, and for clean lube oil at high pressure an ALLWEILER TRILUB TRL screw pump or the NOTOS 3NS is the natural alternative.

About brand
Thick, abrasive or shear-sensitive media are where NETZSCH pumps are normally specified. The NETZSCH group dates from 1873 and has its base in Selb, Germany, and its Pumps and Systems business builds positive displacement pumps in several technologies. Seven Star LLC lists NETZSCH progressing cavity, rotary lobe and multi screw pumps, and supplies NETZSCH pumps and wear parts to plants in Oman as an independent supplier.

NETZSCH pump families listed here

The manufacturer groups its pumps under three main names, and one of each is listed. NEMO is the progressing cavity line, here the NEMO BY in block construction, model NM038BY. TORNADO is the rotary lobe line, with the TORNADO T2. NOTOS is the multi screw line, represented by the NOTOS 3NS three screw pump for lubricating liquids. People searching for a NETZSCH screw pump may mean either NEMO or NOTOS, so the nameplate matters. These pumps are found in wastewater, food, chemical and oil and gas service, all present in the GCC.

Ordering NETZSCH pumps and parts: what we need

Send the pump type and the machine or serial number from the nameplate. For spare parts name the item: rotor, stator, joint kit, seal, lobes. For a new pump give the medium, viscosity, solids content, temperature, flow, pressure and motor data.
